Before It Begins

Hawks is everything the Commission wanted him to be and more. He's the Number Three Pro Hero in Japan, the  protector of Fukuoka, billboard fodder, a heartthrob, an expert in espionage, and rather obedient, if a little snarky about it. For his part, Hawks is just trying to live his life as freely as he can while still being the Commission's perfect hero.

One night after fighting off a particularly nasty villain, he's helped out by a vigilante. She's quiet and shy and does her best to avoid Hawks after their first meeting, but it's hard to hide those white wings of hers or her Healing Quirk. While she's determined to help others, she's not much of a fighter. Hawks decides to keep an eye on her but he doesn't stop her. What's the harm in healing people?

Akane Hirano doesn't have a hero name. Or a license. But she wants to help others, so she often shows up in the aftermath of villain attacks in Fukuoka to heal anyone caught up in the chaos. After she heals Hawks, it seems that she's stuck with the pro hero keeping track of her. It's annoying...and maybe a little sweet.

They're both at a club in Fukuoka when Akane is harassed by a drunk determined to take her home. Hawks steps in as a fake boyfriend. Once the paparazzi hurl the pictures of the two onto social media and the news, the public eats up the idea of Hawks dating. He dates?! That's a thing?!

The Commission decide it's good publicity and if Hawks "dates" someone they control, that would be best. They have Akane arrested for unlawfully using her Quirk and acting as a vigilante. She and Hawks are informed that if they don't keep up the fake dating ruse, at least for now, Akane will be either imprisoned or trained to work for the Commission. If they do choose keep up the act, they'll give Akane a temporary pro hero license and allow Hawks to watch over her as part of his agency while they pretend to date. They've been needing a healer.

They take the deal. Together the two of them decide to act the part, to really give the appearance of dating. But when real feelings get involved, it may be more than either of them bargained for.

Just some story notes! This fic will start about six to seven months before Class 1-A starts their first day of school; it'll vaguely follow along the canon storyline but it's a story that mostly takes place outside of the main plot and focuses on Hawks, Akane, and their fake dating/romance situation. The main canon plot certainly affects their story, but some canon scenes will mostly be alluded to or changed so as not to duplicate Horikoshi's work exactly. 😁 Also, Hawks' mentorship of Tokoyami will be highlighted too! The timeline might stretch or shift, I'm not entirely sure.
