There were three peaks of iron, silver and gold on the Trikuta mountain situated in Kshir Sagar. Between those peaks there was a vast forest full of trees laden with fruits. In that forest, a drunken elephant named Gajendra, walking with his innumerable wives, reached a pond to quench his thirst.

After quenching his thirst, Gajendra felt a desire to do water sports. Then he entered the pond with his women and began to entertain himself by tossing the water. Meanwhile, a huge crocodile caught hold of Gajendra's right leg tightly with its tusks. Due to pain on this, Gajendra started crying. His wives reached the banks of the pond in panic and started shedding tears seeing the sorrow of their husbands. He did not understand how to free Gajendra from the clutches of the crocodile.

Gajendra also started thrashing about while making all efforts to save himself from the clutches of the crocodile. Gajendra would attack the crocodile with his teeth and the crocodile would jump up and scratch the elephant's body with its sharp nails, causing streams of blood to come out.

The elephant used to run its trunk on the back of the crocodile, the crocodile would attack the elephant with its rough tail. If the elephant tried to crush the crocodile with its four legs, it would have hid under the water. On this the elephant would move forward to reach the shore, then quickly the crocodile would grab hold of the elephant and drag it and drown it in the water. In this way the fight between the crocodile and the elephant went on continuously for a thousand years.

Gajendra believed in his strength and fought with courage, yet gradually his strength decreased. Crocodile is an animal that lives in water.

Its power is more inside the water! He became fat day by day sucking the elephant's blood. The elephant became weak. Now only his skeleton remains. It was not possible for the elephant to escape from the clutches of the crocodile.

At last Gajendra became sad and thought, "I came here to quench my thirst. I should have left here after quenching my thirst! Why did I enter this pond without any reason? Who will save me? Still, this belief is growing in some corner of my mind. that somehow I would survive. This means that my hope must have some basis. I call him as God. Shh

"O God, God, become the root of the feeling called God! You are the ghost because of all the activities!

"Proud people like me don't remember you until they are in danger! If you don't suffer, you don't realize your need! You are not visible to him until he believes that you are, and his mind is not disturbed whether you are or not. In this way Gajendra, who thinks equally, felt that the pain caused by the crocodile is reducing a bit.

When Gajendra started meditating, pain started in the gums of the crocodile's molars. His heart started trembling. Even then he got angry and started chewing Gajendra's leg.

"You are the destroyer of the evil and suffering of the living beings! You are spread all over the place! The original form of the gods Oh God! You are the fundamental reason for the creation of this world. I believe that the more intensely I pray to protect myself, the sooner you can protect me!

"O God who takes all kinds of forms, who is beyond speech and mind! It is your responsibility to protect such orphans, isn't it?

"The vital forces within me have answered! Have my tears dried up? I can't even call you out loud! I am losing my senses too! Whether you protect me or leave me, it all depends on your wish. I have no feelings except your attention. There is no one to save me except you! Thus Gajendra raised his trunk and started looking at the sky.

The crocodile felt that his strength was paying off. His mouth is about to open. His throat is getting closed.

On the other hand, the elephant's eyes started closing in such a way that he was not aware of his existence. He just stood still.

Vishnu arrived in that condition. The whole sky was filled with his form. Gajendra felt that he was a very fine particle.

Vishnu left his wheel and spread his hand in abhaya mudra. The Vishnu-chakra circling with great speed came and cut off the crocodile's head.

Actually the crocodile was a Gandharva. His name was 'Huhuush'. In ancient times, a sage named Deval was doing penance standing in the water, then Gandharva, hiding in the water like a crocodile, caught hold of his leg. On this the sage cursed him that you keep lying in this water like a crocodile. Now his curse kept going through Vishnu-Chakra.

After pulling Gajendra out of the pond, who got rid of the crocodile, Vishnu touched his Kumbh-sthal with his palm. Because of that touch, Gajendra was able to get his lost strength as well as the knowledge of his previous birth.

Gajendra was a Vishnu devotee king named Indradyumna in his previous birth. The king, engrossed in the meditation of Vishnu, once did not think of the arrival of sage Agastya. The sage got angry and cursed him that you will be born as a drunken elephant in the next life. Born as Gajendra on the same day, he attained liberation.

Sut Maharishi narrated the story of Gajendra Moksha to the sages like Shaunak etc. who had come for the Satra Yag to be held at Naimisharanya.

The sages said to Sut Maharshi, "Munivar, the story of Gajendra Moksha does not seem to be related to only one elephant, but it is related to all the living beings. Especially it seems to be related to the human life suffering in many bondages and troubles. Shh

To this Sut Maharshi replied, "Yes, the story of Gajendra Moksha is full of puns. One can interpret it in whatever form one wants. Time is under the control of Vishnu. Therefore many difficulties and problems are solved in the movement of the wheel of time." It happens.

The sages asked, "Munivar, on the basis of Gajendra Moksha, we come to know that the cause of everything is Sarveshwar Vishnu. The desire to hear the story of such Mahavishnu in full is awakened in our hearts. We are like children in front of you. . That's why we request you to explain all the things of Vishnu Katha in a simple way that we can understand. You have come to know all the Puranas, history and their meaning through Maharishi Vyas. That's why you tell us those stories. Can do gratitude.

Sut Muni was happy after listening to the words of the sages and said, "Yes, I will definitely tell you. Maharishi Vyas composed the characteristics of many Lilavatars related to Vishnu in the form of Maha Bhagwat and narrated it to his son Shuka. Shuk Maharishi narrated it to Maharaja Parikshit, who wanted to cross the Bhava Sagar after listening to the Vishnu Purana. The incarnation of Vishnu who appeared to protect Gajendra was considered as the Adi Mulavatar.
