Summary: You've known Jaime for some time now, which also means you've noticed that more than a few things don't always add up around him. It takes longer than you care to admit, but eventually the pieces fall into place and you realize that he is the hero Blue Beetle. Too bad for him, he happens to be very bad at hiding things from you when you finally confront him.

----------------------------------

Your leg is bouncing a hundred miles a minute, hand over your mouth, as you stare hard into nothing specific on the wall. With so many thoughts in your head, all crashing down in your mind like harsh waves at the beach, yet sorting themselves as pieces begin to connect and file themselves away in neat and orderly groups, it is still hard for you to believe.

It had been such a little slip; one you were sure he hadn't even noticed – one that had gone over your own head at first as well. It wasn't for another few hours before the words seemed to turn gears in your mind and the lights turned on.

Jaime was good, you'd admit. He was good at hiding things. Or maybe that was just because of how much you trusted him, that you took his word for strange events even when they did not always add up. But just as unfortunate, when little hints finally became clear it was impossible for him to deny you the truth.

Maybe this time things would be different. This wasn't some small secret – it wasn't him hiding a surprise for your birthday, or when he had broken your phone that one time. It was nothing of the sort.

This time you had to convince him to admit the fact that he was the Blue Beetle.

A hero that had been active for years by this day. One that you had fawned about once or twice to one of your best friends! To Jaime Reyes himself!

He had played it off far too smoothly at the time. In fact, he was far too good at playing off comments or discussions on Blue Beetle when he had been brought up on the news, around your friends, or various other instances. But you supposed that by now he had years of practice in doing exactly that.

You sigh, though it comes out more like a huff, finally adjusting your posture and focusing your vision back in this reality. Your leg stops bouncing, foot finally flat to the ground, but your fingers pick up a steady thrum against the table in turn.

It's a lot of information to process. But it makes sense. Jaime was a lot of things, but he wasn't inconsiderate or forgetful. He had always been remorseful when he had been a no-show for certain nights and events, or when he was called away early, showed up late. He could never promise you that it wouldn't happen again, and at least you could appreciate his honesty, though you had never been able to pry the reason away from him. It was the only thing stopping you from asking him out. Though you had wanted to do so for some time now.

Now you can understand. If he was being kept away saving lives you couldn't really fault him for that. He had a city on his shoulders, people to protect. An alternate life you had no part of. But all you wanted right now was the truth from him.

Truth you would get, but first you would test the waters, you reasoned, perking up when you heard the knock at your door you had been waiting on.

You had to ready yourself for a moment before you finally went to open the door.

"Jaime!" you cheered, throwing the door open and enveloping him in a hug.

The force seemed to knock him back for a moment, but he just as quickly wrapped his arms around you. You knew he was cautious about people touching further up his back, and for a split second you were tempted – but you refrained. So instead, you unwound your arms from his waste and peered at him. He seemed far off for a moment before he focused, glancing over you.
