Summary: Amazo was aware of the fact he still had plenty to learn. And you had done a fair bit teaching him, even if you had not realized. He was immortal, but he had already come around to the idea of having you near him, despite the relatively short time in which you could be with one another. But that short time is almost ended early when Amazo finds you in danger during a mugging.

Notes: Requested by @Shimmer-wing11 (Tumblr). Gotta romance up the immortal android.

--------------------

You had been on the tail end of sickness when you had last gone to see Amazo, just a week after the meeting you had been unfortunately late to. Even then, when you were feeling much better, he fretted over you anytime you would cough or sneeze, though it thankfully was not often.

And while it had bothered him that you were still unwell, Amazo could not deny that he had been relieved to see that smile when you had come around the corner. You had asked him about his week, how the flowers were doing – excited to learn that he had asked Inza to show him the best ways to care for them, so they would last longer.

The two of you had just sat that day, like most days, but you swore you would be livelier for the next meeting. It still tired you to be out while you were recovering, so Amazo had insisted on calling it early. You had even let him walk you back to your place to make sure you would still be okay, and to spend a little longer with the android.

With the promise you would see him the next week, the two of you parted ways. Though Amazo lingered by your front door for a moment longer, just to be sure you were safe, before taking off back to the tower of fate.

He still had not discussed his growing feelings for you, not wanting to do so while you were sick. But next time, if you were okay, he would.

The next time came in a blur. Amazo looked forward to your rendezvous, and you looked forward to spending a day away from the town with him just as much. It had you shuffling from place to place in your apartment, grabbing snacks and water, along with a little box holding a gift that you had gotten for him. It was a nice change of pace, the burst of energy that you had. No longer feeling like you were death walking. Though you apparently still looked a little under the weather, you had no other issues and chalked it up to a major lack of sleep. Eager as ever as you hurried out the door, albeit a little late.

Amazo was just as patiently waiting for you in your normal spot. Scanning the town below to spot your miniature figure scurrying through people and over sidewalks as you made your way out of town. But he still couldn't see you.

It was concerning to him. You had appeared better when he last had eyes on you, and you should have been over the sickness by now. But he still worried about something being wrong. It wasn't until he heard your voice, further off in the distance, that he focused in on the little town, looking for you from his perch above it all. Cornered away from the light of the street and into the dark by two men – small bag clutched to your chest and a fierce look on your face as you took steps away from them. You were forced into a dead-end however, and Amazo was sure that you knew as much when you refused to turn and flee. But you did have one trick up your sleeve, even if you were not aware, and Amazo was quick to act.

For you, it happened in the blink of an eye. One moment you have two men advancing on you, determined to grab the gift in your hand and the small number of items on your person. The next second, there is the gold body of the android you've come to admire so much. Your muscles relax in an instant, because you find you cannot feel scared now that Amazo is here.

He says nothing to the two men, who stare up at him in fear, frozen in place before you peak your head out from behind him. It's that little bit of movement, he notes, that seems to snap the pair into gear, and they turn on their heels to run away without so much as a word. With their fleeing forms growing further away, Amazo looks down to you as you step up beside him, grinning just as brightly as the first day you had met.

"Thank you." You bump your shoulder against his side, gift still held close to your chest.

"You're welcome. I'm glad I was able to get here in time."

"Ah, my hero," you chime, motioning him forward as you walk onwards to your typical meeting spot, Amazo falling in step with you.

"I just want to make sure you're safe."

"Careful," you joke, "it sounds like you've got a soft spot for me now."

Amazo looks at you quizzically, waiting for you to continue.

"It means, like, you have affection for me maybe more than others – so that person gets away with more, or you're more protective of them. It's sort of a common saying with humans. Most people say it as a kind of joke."

Amazo mulls this over for a moment, deciding it's a good enough bridge into discussing his growing feelings for you. "I believe this is correct – that I do, indeed, have a soft spot for you."

You stop for a moment, faltering in your step before catching back up to him. "Really?"

"I've wanted to discuss it with you for a time now, but you were sick, and I did not want to do so until you were better."

"So, what did you want to say then? How were you going to tell me?"

"My original plan was just to tell you – I believe I have feelings for you that are more romantic in nature. I was unsure what these emotions were at the start, but after speaking with Dr. Fate I now think that this is what they are."

"So, this has been going on for a little while," you pry, leaning closer to him.

"It has been, for a few weeks at least." Amazo confirms.

"Well, I guess that it's an even better day to give you this gift – but only after we get to our spot." You fix him with a steady look, "and no peaking at it either."

"You have my word."

The rest of the walk was in comfortable silence, though you had stepped closer to him, and Amazo had seemed to straighten at the move. It was not long before your destination was in sight, the trek up the hill so second nature that it took no time at all.

You could practically feel yourself rushing forward, the hero behind you moving just as quickly so as not to lose you.

"You seem excited," Amazo commented, taking his seat on the grass as you got comfortable.

"I am!" You can't help how excited you have gotten, practically thrusting the gift over to him.

Amazo is thankfully quick to respond, catching it gently before carefully unboxing it. Inside is a small bouquet of 5 wooden roses.

"You seemed a little sad that the ones I got you before were starting to wilt, so I got you some that would hold up a lot better." It's a shy admission, and for a moment you can't really keep your eyes on him.

"They're lovely, thank you." he says, tucking them away safely to his side once he is done turning them over in his hands.

"And for what it matters," you start, reaching one hand over to take his own when he allows, "I think I feel the same."

It is a weight off of his chest, one he had not known was there. But he is thankful all the same for your returned feelings. Perhaps he'll share this information with Fate when he gets back. It feels too good to keep to himself.
