Even as you and Miguel began to heal together, he was a changed man. But you're learning to accept that. You've changed too, although you couldn't exactly specify what traits. Miguel was more serious and distant, less vulnerable and lighthearted than before. But you could somewhat say the same for yourself, thinking of those times when you'd automatically put a small barrier whenever you meet someone new. You've become less eager to become close to someone, so you don't get too attached.
Along with his changes, you notice he's still making progress to forgive himself. You found this out the day after the two of you made up after you both talked it out some more. You comforted him as best as you could since you knew he was hurting more than you. You already knew you were going to be fine with time, but Miguel was still hard on himself.
This was something you couldn't really fix on your own, it was really up to Miguel. Of course, you reassured him constantly, because you knew it helped him. The biggest change was when you stepped in on his bad habits.
You stopped him from taking any anomalies he could get his hands on.
"Ah, ah, ah. Where do you think you're going?" You chide. Miguel threw his head back with a frustrated groan.
You helped him eat properly, along with helping yourself with that issue.
"Let's get lunch together?" You smile, dragging the large, moody man to the cafeteria.
You made him sleep for at least eight hours, even when most of the time you guys weren't able to sleep and just rested.
"(Y/n), I'm not going anywhere." Miguel deadpanned. You continued to lay on top of him all night.
Until the two of you were finally getting back on track. It was just like before, where everyone found you two together and inseparable.
"I'm so glad they're back." Peter B. Parker softly smiled; Mayday whined in agreement.
The small group watched the two of you walking around together. Jessica agreed with him happily, proud that the two of you are supporting each other with your issues. It was hard for her to watch, especially when she couldn't do anything. But she knows things will all be okay now.
"That's just bloody rubbish to me, she deserves so much better." Hobie rolls his eyes. Everyone glared at Hobie who scoffed, "This is beastly, innit?"
And eventually, your efforts started to work on Miguel.
"Hey, (y/n), want to do this anomaly with me?" Miguel calls over his shoulder.
Your face brightens the room, "Of course!"
Miguel's lips quirk up a little, fighting a smile. While Miguel acted cold and stoic towards others, you were still able to make him laugh and joke when it was just the two of you. It's something you've come to see as your very own talent (it's not a talent, you just have Miguel's heart). But then again, you missed the old Miguel. I'm sure everyone did.
You tried to remember that it's baby steps. Miguel still loved you; it was just hard to bear the memory of the tragedy he blames himself for. Then again, he's grown a lot more open around you since then. And you were happy enough for that. You were also proud that he's reflected on his mistake and is now looking out for others more than he used to. His development was a mixture of good and bad. You loved him either way.
"Amor . . . I'm not hungry right now." Miguel sighs, being dragged towards the cafeteria by you.
"Well, then you can sit with me while I eat." Your face is determined.
He let a little smile break loose, but you were busy dragging him so you couldn't see. Miguel's noticed your efforts, and while breaking the bad habits was annoying at first, he was grateful that you were trying. If anything, he could handle controlling himself on his own, but he liked to spend time with you. He thought it was cute how you would pop up at any time to scold him or check on him. He loved the long nights when you both couldn't sleep but you'd never leave him.
You ordered Miguel to go find a table for the both of you while you got your food. He obeyed and made his way over to the busy cafeteria. You used to hover over him and never let him out of your sight, but now you've come to trust him more. He's made a lot of progress, and sometimes you felt like you didn't have to be with him everywhere. But you enjoyed spending every second with him, and you had a feeling he did too.
You looked at the variety of food, thinking really hard about what you were craving. You eventually picked one and they served it on a nice silver plate. It was amazing to you how the spider people in Miguel's dimension all built this society and economy. You made your way back after picking up a drink and tried to search for Miguel in the sea of tables and spiders. You couldn't find him, so you found a table for yourself.
Even after minutes of not seeing him, you shrugged it off and believed he went to the bathroom or something. You began to eat your food, scrolling through videos and social media. When you were almost done with your lunch, you realized that Miguel still hasn't come from the bathroom. You were really skeptical and debated on calling him, but Lyla appeared and shared something not to your liking.
"Uh . . . (y/n). You might want to see this." She pulls up a screen in front of you. The footage shows Miguel destroying some kind of flying bombs in midair. Immediately, you knew he was fighting an anomaly without you.
"He made sure that I wouldn't tell you about this, but he's going to call me to get you for backup in a sec'." She smirks, watching the screen with you.
Miguel cut off the large vulture's wing, you see that the anomaly had an interesting vintage style in him. But you could tell why he was going to call for backup, the building was being destroyed, and many civilians were still inside.
"Ay, por Dios, He's got hammerspace!" You see him falling, along with another spider girl in white you assumed lived in that dimension.
"See you there!" Lyla salutes you before phasing away.
You feel hot like anger boiling in you. What was he thinking? That he could slyly leave for an anomaly while you were distracted? On his own?! You took deep breaths, ready to give him an earful the next time you saw him.
"Lyla? Can you please . . ." Miguel pushes a large boulder of concrete off him. "Y'know . . ."
"Nah, you gotta say it first." Lyla teases him.
"Call (y/n) . . ." He mumbles.
"What?"
"Call (y/n)." He says, still quiet.
"C'mon~" She smugly grins, bending in front of his face.
Miguel loses his patience, trying to grab her small body in annoyance. "Please, just call--"
"-Yeah, I already called her." Lyla waved her hand at him. Miguel grunts in frustration. "But I enjoyed thaat~"
You jump through a portal, falling midair of a building on the verge of collapsing. You spot the vulture in front of you with his large wings. Twisting your body to reach him, you use your web to swing yourself hard for a kick to his face, then swing to one of the building's platforms. You bring out your weapon and turn on your red spider goggles, inspecting the area from a higher view.
"Woah . . ." You hear a girl say behind you. It was the spider girl from earlier.
Turning around, you switch off your goggles and see she has nice teal ballet shoes to her suit. It was a cute look, something you considered for later.
"Ooh, là là. I love your ballet shoes. It is a very nice look."
"You're . . . You're just like me." The white spider whispers in awe.
You give her a brief smile, "Madame Web. And you?"
"Spiderwoman . . ." She replies, still in awe.
You've learned about her before, Miguel filled you in on the small group Miles Morales worked with on the King Pin case. Her name was Gwen Stacy from Earth-65.
