The next day, I woke up bright and early, determined to make a change. I applied to numerous companies, eager to find a new job and escape the toxic environment I was currently in. Alongside my job search, I also began researching housing loan options. If I wanted to save my house and pay off the remaining amount, taking out a loan seemed like the best course of action.

Although I had worked late into the night, I didn't realize how quickly the morning had arrived. Despite feeling fatigued, I managed to get myself ready on time. Today, I made a firm decision to focus on my job and work diligently throughout the day, regardless of the challenges that lay ahead. It was time to prove to myself that I was capable of handling anything that came my way.

"It's 7 am, and I made it on time," I thought to myself as I stood before the towering 20-floor skyscraper that housed the office. I couldn't help but wonder how Thomas had amassed such wealth in just three years to be able to afford a building like this. I let out a sigh, pushing aside those thoughts as I entered the office.

My first responsibility of the day was to make coffee for everyone. I headed to the office's cafe corner, only to find it empty. Not a single person was available to take any orders. As expected, it was still early in the morning, and I couldn't help but question why Mrs. Cornia had assigned me this punishment.

Undeterred, I began making coffee and morning tea for my department. Just as I was getting into the rhythm, my phone rang, interrupting the quiet morning.

"Hello, Alex. How are you?" It was James on the other end of the line.

"I'm fine, James. Were you asleep? I'm sorry for calling so early," he asked, his tone filled with concern.

"No, I'm already awake. And guess what? I'm in the office early," I replied, trying to lighten the mood.

"By the way, are you okay? You seemed worried at dinner, and since then, you haven't been replying to any of my texts," I inquired, wondering what had gone wrong.

"Alex, I'm sorry our date got ruined. The client called and they're canceling the deal for undisclosed reasons. I've been swamped with work. I'm sorry, please don't be angry," James explained, his voice tinged with sadness. I could sense how important this project was to our company.

"It's alright, James. I'm not angry. I was just worried about you. I thought something might have happened to you or your family, that's why you left without telling me the special thing," I stopped myself mid-sentence, realizing how desperate I must have sounded.

"Yes, Alex, I remember that special thing, and I assure you that I'll be there very soon to tell you. I'll make it up to you," he chuckled, causing my cheeks to turn red.

"I'll be waiting," I blushed, my heart fluttering.

"And I'm waiting for my coffee," a chill ran down my spine as I heard the voice of the person I hated listening to.

"I'll call you later," I quickly hung up the call and turned to face his handsome yet menacing face.

"Alex, I believe I asked you to bring me coffee yesterday, didn't I?" he approached me, his anger palpable. His intense stare was fixated on my phone as if he could crush it with just a glance.

"I heard you were late on your first day in the marketing department because of a dog, woof!" he mocked with a serious expression.

"And as a result, you received the duty of serving morning tea to everyone?" his voice was hostile, even in the early morning. I wondered what had happened to make him this way, but then again, he had always been rude, even when he was my husband. It was nothing new.
