The basics
Malaria sat me down on the ground in my room. "Do you want to know the basics?" She asked me "Yes." "To start, Let's address the scarring thing." she sighed. "In ghosts nature, we get the urge to scare. But we never really want to get caught" she waits for a response but I let her keep going. "If we don't get the scare that we desire, then we can turn into something....Worse..." "What does that mean?" It was quiet..Too quiet.. Then she spoke again. "It means you aren't like yourself, that....That you will get "out of control" I guess.." she made air quotation marks with her fingers "I'm confused" I say. "They all are. But, you'll understand soon enough." she says looking down at the ground with a sigh.
"Now. Let's address who can see you, when they can, and how." "people can see ghosts?" "Depends. some humans are born with the power to sense or see the ghosts. They're called mediums." she explains. "Huh.." I say, reassuring her I'm listening and not distracted. "you can choose if you want average mortals to see you. You don't get to choose if mediums can see you though, it's just what they were born like. It's unlikely we can do anything about that." "okay, you said unlikely?" I say thinking real hard if I want to ask her this or not. "Yes?" she says questioning my question. "Well, does that mean....Does that mean that I could possibly.. With enough power...Could I hide myself from mediums?" I finally managed to say. So I'm repeating stuff now? I thought, great. Just another thing that's wrong with me."Presumably, yes. But, only if you're powerful enough. Since you're a new ghost, you're supposed to not be that strong. Did pushing over the books make you tired?" "Yes...I'm trying to regain my energy by sitting here with you." "Good. You need to regain enough energy to at least walk or float. Anyways, That's all I have to tell you for now. Oh! Wait, there's an....uhm...an evil...Entity. You have to hide when he gets here. He....uh....Is too powerful for us." "A powerful entity?" "You'll find out eventually." "uhm..Okay." I stand up now that my energy is back. She stands up after me. We both walk out to the living room, back to the chaos of my death. Margaret is screaming her head off at my mom "I SWEAR! SOMEBODY WAS IN THERE!" she screams. "I KNOW YOU JUST WANT THE ATTENTION BECAUSE FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE THE ATTENTION FINALLY GOES TO ZANE!" my mom testifies. I was glad that she wouldn't buy my sister's truthfulness. "B-BUT!" My sister tried to argue but my mother wasn't hearing it. "Aaron we need to call the police!" "No." "What do you mean Aaron!? WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO!? WE NEED AN AMBULANCE!" "I SAID NO CHARLOTTE!" "WHY!? DO YOU JUST WANT TO BURRY HIM IN OUR BACKYARD OR SOMETHING!? ERASE HIS EXISTENCE FROM THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!?" "Charlotte. You need to calm down!" "HOW CAN I POSSIBLY CALM DOWN!? MY SON IS DEAD IN MY LIVING ROOM AND MY HUSBAND DOESN'T WANT TO GET HELP! WHAT!? DID YOU INTEND TO KILL HIM OR SOMETHING!?" I watch my mom sob her life away, she sobs and sobs. "It's okay Charlotte. We can figure this out. We need to cover this up. If we call the police and they ask us what happened, then we could get arrested for the murder of him and neglect!" "So you know what you're doing is wrong?" I say blankly. Malaria looks at me. "What?" she asks. Now I know I have to explain. But I don't want to. "hunny..." my father continues. We both push our attention back to my parents. "What do we do!?" my mother sobs. I can't handle it. I want to go over to her and comfort her but I can't. I wish I could though. It's not bad to wish. I think. I never got my father's opinion of whether boys could wish or not. But it's too late now. "Hunny, just go to our room and calm down. I'll take care of everything for you." "You better!" My mom says as she storms out. I wonder what he'll do to my body...
