the skies turning blue again.

I had been hard at work in my design room, beginning the construction of Payton's outfit, when our doorbell rang loud and clear. I looked up with no hesitation, throwing my things aside to rush over to the source. I could feel the energy through the door and I swung it open with full force, hugging my big sister with all the power I could like she'd returned home from war or some other big thing. "Valli!"

"Mysty!!" She hugged me back just as tight if not tighter. She was normally happy to see me again, but never this happy. I could tell right away, she was glowing. I pulled back and smiled.

"You seem happy," I say as I close the door behind her. She nods, leaving her suitcase at the entrance to pull me into my room as if without being locked in there anyone could hear us. She pushed me backward, sitting me down on my bed, and radiated excitement that made me nervous. Then she showed me her left hand.

My eyes widened. "Diego proposed!!" She said. I could see how lovestruck she was, hearts were practically oozing from her skin. I jumped back up to hug her and the two of us twirled and fell back onto my bed, giggles bursting through the room.

"I'm so happy for you Val!!" It made perfect sense honestly. Her cheeks shone pink. A shade only normally shone when Diego was around. "So when are you two really getting married?"

Her vision darts from place to place in happy excitement. "We're thinking in a year or two." I push a strand of hair from her face, hoping that she was able to feel just how glad I was that she had someone who loved her as much as Diego did. "I'm so happy for you. I love you, Valeria." It was like my own big sister was starting to move forward.

To the next chapter of her life. A few days ago I would have been mopey about it. Just because I've been stuck in the same chapter of my life since Mayra died. But right now, I was glad. The lady that I looked up to.

My favorite sibling had someone who loved her like she deserved to be. "I love you too Mystery." Her eyes welled up with tears and she pulled me close and hugged me tight. "Didi is finally gonna be my big brother, that's crazy." She chuckled.

"You know he hates that nickname." Then we laughed together some more. The happiness in our hearts never faded as our souls rejoiced. At least one person in this family was finally starting to move on. Once Valeria went away to unpack in her own room, I thought about my own love life.

One that had been extremely secure a month or two ago, but had completely fallen to shambles now. I barely even had friends any more. My childhood friend Evangeline's last time in the same room as me was when she came back for Mayra's funeral. We called sometimes and those were always good times, but we didn't call nearly enough to be best friends anymore. I pulled out my phone and lay against the pillows on my dark blue bed, pulling the blankets over me to get comfy.

Maybe I wasn't ready for a relationship quite so soon after my last but, I did in fact want a friend. I looked at my most recent messages and Payton's name showed up. We had sent our names to each other to secure that we'd used the right number. I stared at the screen. It had been a whole day and there wasn't a peep from him, even though he had been literally begging for my number.

I started to type.
