Sook-won's room was enveloped in the quiet serenity of the night when the clock struck three in the morning. Once more, sleep engulfed him, lulling him into a world of dreams that seemed to hold the secret to his developing superhuman nature.
Sook-won found himself in a pitch-black, empty alleyway in his dream. He could smell decay while hearing footsteps in the distance. From the shadows, a figure appeared, their blood-red eyes connecting with his own. The taste of warm, coppery blood filled his senses as he leaned in and parted his lips to drink from a throbbing neck.
Sook-won abruptly opened his eyes as his body was saturated in a chilly sweat. He sat up, urgently looking for comfort in the security of his room, feeling a sense of bewilderment sweep over him. He stumbled toward the kitchen in quest of a drink of water as his parched throat pleaded for comfort.
Sook-won's eyes landed on his own reflection in the mirror as he grabbed for a glass and turned on the faucet. His breath caught in his throat as he froze. Instead of the image he had become accustomed to, a different one was staring back at him— a random generated image in his head.
His physical appearance had changed remarkably. He had chiseled and sculpted muscles, and his figure exuded strength and force. But it was the intensity of the crimson-red color in his once-familiar brown eyes that captured his attention.
Sook-won murmured, "No... this can't be real," his voice quivering in shock. He rubbed his eyes and turned to look again, hoping that the image would return to the face he had known his entire life—one that bore the weight of his previous hardships but was devoid of any supernatural characteristics.
Nevertheless, the mirror persisted in reflecting a truth that was impossible to deny. Many different ideas raced through his mind as panic clawed at his chest. He had only heard of the elusive vampires in legends; could he actually be one of them? Was he destined to travel a route he didn't choose?
Shaking his head, Sook-won tried to explain the irrational. His voice was a mixture of denial and dread as he mumbled, "It's just a hallucination, a trick of the light." "A rational explanation must exist."
Even though he didn't want to believe it, he secretly knew the truth. He could no longer deny the fact that the dreams, the unexplainable powers, and now the physical changes all pointed to.
Sook-won extended his quivering palm to the mirror, stroking the calm surface in an effort to desperately cling to the comfort of his former self. "I won't allow that to happen because I'm still me, despite what these changes might indicate."
The reflection in the mirror remained unmoving and silent. With a mixture of defiance and perplexity written over his features, Sook-won removed his hand. He was aware that he would have to accept the reality that was staring him in the face.
Sook-won struggled with a flurry of emotions as the burden of his new identity weighed heavily on his shoulders. He struggled internally with fear, doubt, and a strong desire to maintain his humanity. His life would never be the same again, despite the treacherous and uncertain route that lay ahead.
He withdrew back to his bed with a heaving sigh, the echoes of his inner conflict echoing in the night's calm. The consequences of his change and the inevitable conflict between the world he had known and the supernatural one he was now a part of kept him from falling asleep.
