"Rachel, wake up! It's time to get ready!" whispered my older brother Kain. I groaned.
"Five more minutes." I rolled over on my bed, covering my face in my pillow. Kain clicked his tongue.
"Tsk, tsk. I thought you would have learned by now." a hint of mischievousness in his voice. I laughed as he began to tickle me out of bed.
"Okay, okay! Ha ha! I'm up! ha ha ha! I'm up!" I breathed in much needed air when he ceased his torture. Kain sat beside me on the edge of my bed and waited until I had settled down a bit. My brother was two years older than me, a senior. His dark brown hair fell perfectly over his eyes, emphasizing the handsomest parts of his face. His hypnotizing green eyes were shut, and he was humming in his enchanting melodic voice. After a few seconds, he stood up, ruffled my hair and smiled.
"Our school bus leaves in 20 minutes." He said, and merrily went on his way down stairs to make breakfast. Our parents had recently had to take up a second job that was located on the other side of the island, so every morning they left before we woke up off to their first job, and came home after we went to sleep from their second job. The only days we got to spend with them were on weekends, but they were usually and most likely called out to do one of their jobs because they were short handed. I sighed, and decided it was about time to get ready for another long day of school.

As I got off the bus, I looked around for oncoming vehicles. I know I know, it's pretty lame of me considering the fact that I'm already a sophomore. My heart began to beat faster and faster as I caught sight of him, Luke Hemmings! Juniors, Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, and Ashton Irwin were driving smoothly towards the crosswalk I was currently on. My happy expression was quickly turned into a frown when I noticed who was the driver of the vehicle. Calum Hood. The guy that I have always despised for as long as I could remember. Ever since elementary, Calum always picked on me, and teased me. Even when he came over to our house to hang out with my brother, Kain. He even gave me a nickname: Seaweed head.
How had I earned this life crushing nickname? Kain had invited the four of them to the beach, and because there was no one at home to watch me, he had brought me along. This was when Kain was a sophomore, the four of them were freshmen, and I was an 8th grader. Anyways, the day before I had accidentally used my mothers green hair dye she used for holidays as shampoo, and it had temporarily dyed my hair green. When Kain told me we were going to the beach I was mortified. I tried wearing a floppy sun hat, but Calum stole it from me on the way there. To make things worse, when I went swimming I got caught in a particularly large wave and was rolled under. Apparently I had blacked out because when I came to, I was on the beach and Calum was sitting beside me choking and laughing. That's when I realized that there was green seaweed in my green hair! I never heard the end of that experience because Calum keeps bringing it up, and ever since he started calling me Seaweed head, the whole school began calling me that! I've hated him ever since. Oddly enough, it was his voice that brought me out of my thoughts.
"Get out of the way!" Calum shouted at me, flailing his arms frantically. Luke was pale with fright and I had no idea why. I noticed that they had parked nearby so naturally I was curious as to what the problem was. Calum began sprinting towards me. ʻHe's probably just showing off his cross country skills.' I took a step closer towards him, and the next thing I knew, there was a loud horn blaring in my ear, headlights blinding me, and a blur of a blue delivery truck careening towards me. I barely had time to gasp before I felt two strong arms wrap around me as I heard screams and the screeching of brakes. Then, everything went black.
