Paris finds himself on the bus that Erica stole in Spy School British Invasion.

Paris had been having a reasonably good, but so far mostly uneventful, time on their mission in London before someone took over the bus he was riding on. Then things got a little strange.

The bus that Paris had been riding on when this all happened was one of those stereotypical red double decker things. He had been sitting on the bottom level, only a few rows back from the bus driver. The bus had been taking a relatively slow and scenic route near the Thames River and had stopped to let passengers on and off when the commandeering occurred.

Erica Hale, who was only a year older than Paris was, stood in the doorway of the bus and made what at first appeared to be a joke about taking it. Then, to the shock of both the bus driver and the passengers, she threw the bus driver out onto the street.

Paris would have gotten up and immediately arrested her had he not been in a crowd of people where a teenager arresting someone would seem suspicious, but that was not the case. So Paris snapped some pictures of the girl and the group of people (a man, a woman, and several other teenagers) that got on with her and sent them to the group chat the City Spies had.

Monty texted back a few seconds later that it would be best not to get involved in the situation because there were a lot of conflicting thoughts on what was going on, even within MI6.

Paris was confused by this as the bus was now involved in a police chase, suggesting that law enforcement had clearly picked a side.

The girl turned out to be both not the world's greatest driver and a stubborn American, as she drove on the right side of the road. And kept doing so even when someone in her group told her that she should be driving on the left. But since she obviously didn't care about causing car crashes, and this was a police chase, there was even a possibility she was trying to cause more car crashes to separate the bus from the police cars chasing it. That was not a particularly pleasant thought for Paris, who would have much preferred to have been in a bus safely driven by a trained bus driver over a sporadic teenager.

Which was a whole thing in and of itself. Paris didn't know why the two adults who had come on the bus when this girl had hijacked it hadn't been the ones to drive the bus. On the other hand, they were all also for some reason soaking wet and had just taken over a bus to use in a police chase, so maybe there were bigger questions here.

Paris texted back asking what this situation was that had led to this bus chase and was directed to an article from a few hours earlier, detailing how a group of people had broken into the British Museum and destroyed a number of priceless artifacts. Sure enough, the photos from the article showed the exact same people now in control of a bus now going faster than it probably ever had before.

From the article, though, the situation seemed pretty cut and dry. These people had clearly destroyed artifacts, which was a crime.

"So why is the situation complicated?" he texted.

"They're mostly CIA agents," Monty responded. "One works for MI6. The odds that they had good intentions are high. Do not get involved."

"Ok," Paris said, still feeling like he definitely didn't have the whole story.

"Crash positions, everyone!" the girl driving the bus called out.

Well, that wasn't good.

Paris curled up into a ball and held onto his seat for dear life as the bus slammed into an archway that it was too big to fit under.

While that certainly hadn't been pleasant, at least the bus was now stationary, and no one in it had died.

The police swarmed around the bus as the girl kicked out the windshield and casually hopped out of the bus, the rest of her group following behind her. Paris briefly debated going after them, but ultimately decided to heed Monty's advice and just stay put.

Interestingly enough, the chase through the city had brought Paris close to his stop much faster than just riding the bus the normal way would have, but now there would be police questioning to deal with as law enforcement tried to sort everything out, which would certainly put a damper on everyone's afternoon. And most certainly make everyone extremely late to wherever they had been going.

Oh, well. Paris just tried to remind himself that he hadn't been in much of a hurry anyway.
