—YOU'VE BEEN STUCK in the police station for just a few hours, but it already felt like years had passed since you last felt the sun. people occasionally entered the room, but left right after while mumbling something incomprehensible. you were starting to get bored, actually scratch that you've been bored ever since you got stuck here. for every second the clock ticks, your hope of finally being released was diminishing. that guy said he'd return once the case was officially dismissed, but way too long has passed.

it was to the point that you were just about to consider leaving by yourself, but that extremely annoying guy returned, and that meant it just finished, and perhaps you could finally get out. "thanks, your notes were of great help." he patted you on the back before quickly retracting it after seeing you glance at him in annoyance. he took his own seat opposite of you, leaning on his arm. "really though, without your help we never could've figured out that the lady was the one who killed her own husband." he sighed, but you just thought about it. if the heroes were unable to notice these obvious clues despite being there from the start, could they really be trusted? you doubted it, but you decided to keep silent. "so can i leave yet?" you asked, hoping for a positive response, but he shook his head instead. "unfortunately not, because when we looked through the information of every japanese citizen, it appears that we have zero records of your existence." that was no surprise to you however.

you weren't from this world to begin with, so if there was information about you, it'd be surprising. "where are you really from?" you contemplated for a while, would he believe you if you told him the truth? or would he deny it and accuse you of lying. "i don't remember, when i woke up i found myself on the ground, before i was accused of murder." you say with mock sadness, but from the fact that he just continued staring at you, told you everything. "liar." he was good at differentiating lies from truths, that's a good skill to have. "you were too calm for someone who just lost their memories." well, that was fair. "i'm not from this world, which explains why you can't find a single record of me." you told him the truth this time, hawks seemed to think for a while, his gaze stuck on the table. "you may be telling the truth, but other people won't believe you that easily." what he said wasn't wrong, these types of situations would usually only occur to people in fairytales. even then, it still surprised you on how well he took it.

"so, if you'll give me information about your life in the world where you came from, i'll try to convince the higher ups." he offered you, it was one that'll help you tremendously, because the idea of actually meeting them seemed bothersome, especially since they seem like even worse people than hawks. "first of all, i am part of an organization called the demon slayer corps. from the name you can tell that we kill demons. however, since my role is that of the commander, not only do i fight, i must also guide them in bigger battles such as ones against the higher ranked demons." he hummed, "so there's these creatures called demons in your world that cause harm to people?" you confirmed that it was in fact correct, you'll leave out the fact that they also eat their flesh. "since it's an organization, you must have a leader correct?" you nodded, "yes. he's a very gentle man, he cares a lot for the people in the organization, each and every single one of them." a thought wandered in your mind if he did care for you as well, but you pushed it back into the darkness of your mind.

"what a nice organization, but.." he breathed in, "i hope this doesn't offend you but you look a bit too young to be leading people into battle." you stayed silent, it wasn't out of offense, but rather you expected this response. most, if not all slayers you've met assumed you were rather young. "i get that a lot, but trust me i'm not fifteen, or sixteen." you tell him, "yeah, sure whatever you say." you sighed, clearly he didn't believe you, but that's his problem. "thank you for your honesty, but judging from what you said, if i submitted this to the database i'm sure certain people will catch wind of it," he muttered, "someone so young shouldn't need to go through that." even though he whispered the last part, you could still hear it and you wish you could hit him. though you hate to admit that he of all people were correct, but he really was and it'd be a pain to either be kidnapped or be forced to be a hero.

you could tell that it seemed as if he were talking from experience, as if he himself experienced that sort of struggle. it wouldn't be a surprise if he did, considering how messed up their society looked at first sight. but through all your thoughts, one had been there ever since you came to this world. if you do manage to find a way back, what'll happen then? would they still accept you even if you were absent in this most crucial moment? no, kagaya surely excluded you from the plans seeing what he did. however, the plan didn't go accordingly, and in that case you didn't know if they won the war or not.

you were then snapped out of your thoughts when hawks called out to you, "you seem rather out of it, are you alright?" he asked out of concern, but you brushed it off. "i'm fine, anyways what were you saying again?" he cleared his throat before continuing. "as i was saying, i was planning to only input in some information into the database, that way they'll just think that you have potential, but not give it much thought." he explained to you. "perhaps i'll get you into a normal school, earliest i can promise is next year." he considered it, and you also gave it some thought. it wouldn't really help to find a way back, so you were about to decline before he continued again. "if you don't like this option, i could always just put in everything." he smiled. ..ah, you let your guard down, and now he's being annoying again, was he trying to get you to choose the first option? "obviously it'll be the first option." because it worked. "pleasure doing business with you." he shook your hand with a grin, but you feel like it was more of a complacent look rather than what he said it was.

does he have any other hobby other than annoying you? probably not, and you doubt it'll change anytime soon. if you had the chance, you'd attack him right at this moment if not for the fact that cameras were watching you two. "the school i'm talking about is one of the most prestigious hero schools, U.A. but don't feel intimidated!" and somehow, he got worse. "from your skills, you can definitely breeze through their entrance exam no problem." he laughed it off, but you returned it with silence that was perhaps from disappointment. it then died down to a rather awkward silence, causing him to start speaking again. "i just remembered, what was your name?" he asked, it was rather hilarious that despite knowing each other for a while now he didn't know your name at all. "my name is [name], [name] [last name]." you introduced yourself, as you stood up realizing the conversation was soon ending. "nice to meet you, [name]! and of course, i'm hawks." he offered his hand to shake, but you stared at him flatly which made him retract it with a sigh.

"i'll see you then, try to make yourself a comfortable life until then." he bids his goodbye, opening the door so you could at last take your long awaited exit from this police station.
