9:43 pm.
The first encounter Kirsten had with this thing in her room was nothing but a sound. A sound of troubled breathing.
She tried to ignore it but she had already frozen in fear. She couldn't even bring herself to breathe. She worried it might attack her if she made any sounds, even if it was something as subtle as breathing.
It was a cycle, the breathing. It would emit a horrible wheezing groan and then the room would return to utter silence.
Kirsten was able to locate the sound in the pitch black. It horrified her to know it was most likely coming from above. She pictured a big monster up there, claws dug into the ceiling as it stared at her, stalking its prey.
A stray tear rolled down her cheek and was swallowed by her pillow promptly.
Kirsten worked to turn her head as slowly as possible. She groped around for her phone and when she felt the rubber case brush against her fingers, pulled it towards her painfully slow.
She wished to grab her phone quickly and spring up, turning on her light, but she feared it may attack if she moved.
Kirsten covered up the phone as much as possible while still allowing herself room to see the screen. She swiped up and held down on the flashlight icon, aiming above and releasing her finger from the screen. The light sprung forwards the lit up well over half of the small room.
There wasn't a soul in sight.
She swung the phone in different directions, lighting up every corner on both her ceiling and her walls.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
She was sure at this point that paranoia was getting the best of her. She continued blaming the new medicine. She thought about putting the meds on hold for a week or so to test that theory.
Turning off the flashlight and curling up into bed once again, Kirsten took in a deep breath. She closed her eyes cautiously.
She didn't notice her closet door was open a few feet and actively closing.
It wasn't before.
