 Chapter 1 - Demise of a Flower

It was a cold, dark and rainy day in June, and the clock was about to strike fifteen hundred hours. Chouko (Shinobu) was looking out the window, boredly as the small droplets of water clung together onto the windowpane. There were only fifteen minutes left of her calculus course, and then she could report to her part-time job at the library for her shift.

Frankly, Chouko didn't want to be at school at all today. But somehow her best friend, Haruto (Kyojuro) convinced her to reconsider; after all, Haruto is an expert at persuasion. Earlier that day, he expressed that he was worried about her well-being. He also explained that staying in her apartment all week long wasn't healthy during a heartbreak. As a matter of fact, all her close friends knew she wasn't in a good headspace and were pretty concerned for her. Not to mention, they didn't think it was wise to screw up her scholarships with only one year left to complete. Chouko is considered one of the brightest Biochemistry major students to attend Kyoto University right now.

The twenty-one-year-old sighed deeply. She was growing exhausted from the dating game, having just been cheated on by her boyfriend of six months. Due to this, her spirit was gloomy as the rainy day before her. It wasn't like she didn't know of his affair with another women. She just wanted to believe that he'd have enough decency to break up with her first before dating someone else.

Sadly, this seemed a lot to ask from someone, because he made her feel awful, as if it was her fault that she found out about the cheating. He was also rambling on about how she wasn't his type, and according to him, he always liked girls with hourglass figures and a peach-shaped booty to match. Chouko felt insulted and wasn't going for the disrespect, any longer. Ultimately, she kicked him in the face with her famous three-sixty back kick; this of course knocked him out cold and embarrassed him in front of the new lady friend. After that, she vowed to never speak to him again, especially after what she endured that night.

Fifteen minutes passed and the bell for dismissal sounded. Chouko grabbed all her belongings and left the classroom in a hurry. When she was making her way towards the front entrance of the campus, a familiar voice called out from behind her "Cho-chan! Wait up!"

Chouko turned around and saw a swish of bright yellow hair with red highlights amongst the crowd coming towards her. She automatically recognized this person as her best friend Haruto. In fact, they've been best friends since the first year of middle school; eight years and counting.

With a smile, Chouko thought about the first time she met Haruto. They both arrived at the middle school entrance behind schedule on the first day. That's when they noticed a group of delinquents bullying a younger boy around their age. Naturally, the right thing to do was to team up and take those delinquents down. So, they did and from that moment on they became the best of friends.

Chouko greeted him with a small wave as he approached her seconds later. "Hello, Haru-kun."

Haruto stared at her with concern and cocked an eyebrow. "Why do you look at me with such sad eyes? That scumbag didn't call you, right?"

She shook her head "No. He didn't."

Haruto sighed with relief. "Thank goodness."

"But a part of me wishes that he did" she admitted. "I just want to know if he's sorry for what he said to me." Chouko nervously shifted from foot to foot as Haruto gave her the side eye. "Do you think I should call him?"
