saturday morning, my favorite day of the week. i woke up and got out of bed, brushing my teeth and not yet bothering to brush my hair. i checked my phone for any messages, and sure enough, i had some direct messages from vanessa, my internet friend. i decided to check them later.
i got up, and put on a pair of light wash denim shorts and a plain black top. i then put on a pair of white vans, and brushed my hair. i went downstairs to see my mom.
"good morning, alex! how is your first official day of summer break?" my mom cheerily asked me.
"morning mom! and it's good, feels like summer. i might have to go swimming today!" i giggled, my mom just had a new pool dug in our back yard and it looks great.
"that sounds okay to me! you should invite a couple friends.. i'm actually not going to be home until tomorrow morning, so maybe have alena come over so you're not all alone." my mom said, while gathering her ingredients for making breakfast.
"sounds good, mom. where are you going until tomorrow?" i was curious, so i asked my mom where she was going.
"just a little one night trip to san diego with cheryl, go down to the beach and get some time in with my friends." she smiled.
i replied with a simple "okay," and went back up to my room. i replied to vanessa's "good morning," and checked if shawn had tweeted yet. nothing. i sighed and put my phone back down.
i turned on my laptop, and opened my tumblr. i scrolled and reblogged for maybe ten minutes, then my phone beeped, signaling i had a twitter notification. i opened twitter to find that the notification was a direct message.
vanessa: how's ur morning going?
i replied to her message, but not exactly giving her an answer.
alex: hey, can i have your phone number? i'd prefer not to use data to talk to you cause my mom might get mad/:
she replied with her phone number, and i texted her. we just texted about shawn for about 15 minutes, and then my mom called me.
"alex! breakfast is done!"
"coming!" i yelled in response to my mom. i went downstairs to be greeted by strawberry waffles and scrambled eggs with a glass of milk. i was so hungry, i finished it all before my mom could even finish cutting her waffle up.
i washed my dishes and went back upstairs and called my friend from school, alena. i invited her over and she quickly accepted and showed up at my house with a sleepover bag packed. she walked inside and greeted my mom, and then we went upstairs.
after arguing for 20 minutes over what to watch, i suggested going swimming. she though that was a good idea, so we changed into our bathing suits and jumped in. the water was cold, but it was 97°F outside, so we didn't mind the cool water.
my mom left soon after we got in the pool, so i brought out my radio and played some music and got some snacks in the back yard. we laughed and talked a lot, and dunked each other under water a few times as well.
when we got out of the pool and back in my room, i texted vanessa. alena knew about my internet friend, but she doesn't like the internet and thinks that if i ever turn up dead it's the internet's fault.
she speaks up. "you know, the internet is unpredictable." she said in a very serious tone.
"oh, c'mon. how bad could it be?" i laughed, and shook it off.
"unpredictable. yeah, right," i thought to myself.
