It started just like every other normal day did.
I got up and got ready for school and went to meet Hannah so we could walk to school together.
Two days ago, my parents left to go on a camping trip and hike up some mountain - I wasn't really listening when they explained it to me.
But then they said they had arranged for me to stay at Hannah's place until they got back - they were supposed to get back today.
We were sitting in English class when the Principal ( Mr. Harold ) asked me to come to his office to talk. I was not the type of person who got into trouble and I wasn't failing in any of my classes, but still I couldn't think of why he would want to speak to me personally.
As I walked down the empty hallways of my school, I started to get a bad feeling.
When I walked into Mr. Harold's office, I immediately new something terrible had happened by the look on his face.
There were several other people in the room. Two were in policeman uniform, one was in a very sleek suit and the other two were Hannah's parents.
Hannah's mother looked as if she had been crying and she immediately walked over to me as I walked into the room and motioned me to sit down.
She sat next to me on a dark leather couch and turned to face me, putting one hand on mine on top of my thigh.
"What's wrong?", I asked worriedly.
"It's, it's your parents", she said shakily.
"They were found last night at a campground", Hannah's father explained.
"So..?", I said sounding cautiously curious.
"Your p-parents were attacked by an animal, Aria, and they both died", Mrs Davis said and then started balling her eyes out again and left the room.
And just like that it felt like someone had ripped my heart from my chest.
But in that moment I knew my life had taken a very tragic turn for the worse.
I didn't know what to say, I just sat there in shock while everyone in the room watched me intently.
Tears started to slowly fall from one by one until I practically had waterfalls coming from my eyes. Mr Davis put a tissue box in front of me and then sat down where his wife had been and rubbed my back.
Just then the door slammed open, and Hannah came running in and her mother followed slightly behind her. I jumped up into her arms just as she started to cry. Her mother must have gone to get her when she left them room.
We sat down, with her still holding me closely and stayed that way for another couple of minutes until Mr. Harold finally spoke.
"Aria', he said softly "I know this is hard for you to hear, but Mr. Shean here is your family lawyer and is here to take care of everything for you."
I looked up at him, but my vision was blurred through all the tears.
"Seeing as you are Mr and Mrs Faye's only child, almost everything your family owned has been left for you." He said being cautious as to how I might react.
I just looked at him and nodded slightly.
"Now I know that you have no other relatives living in North Carolina, we were able to find you mothers sister, Kate, whom we have already spoken to and she has agreed to be your legal guardian until you turn 18," he continued calmly "However, Kate lives in Mystic Falls a few hours from here and is currently unable to look after you for the time being", he turned towards Mr Davis expectantly.
"Until your aunt is able to take care of you, Carol and I will look after you and you will be able to live with us until then" Mr Davis said turning from his wife to me.
I still couldn't manage to say anything. I sat there and stared blankly at my feet wandering how I will survive this.
"I can't do this!" I blurted out and ran out of the office still crying.
I didn't what I was planning on doing but I just grabbed my stuff from my locker, ran out of the school, jumped into my and started driving.
I had no idea where I was going but I just kept driving. When I had and argument with my parents or Hannah or even when I recently broke up with my boyfriend, Ben, driving was one of the things I did to clear my head.
I was stopped at some traffic lights in town when my phone rang, it was Hannah. Without thinking I accepted the call using the bluetooth in my car and immediately started to cry again.
"Aria", Hannah's voice sounded sincere and soft "I know it's hard for you right now, but remember that I'm here for you. So when you are ready, come over and we can talk if you want to."
"Ok-k" I struggled to get out. And then I hung up on her.
I knew she was the only one who could help me get through this, but I also knew I didn't want to talk about it.
An hour later...
As I pulled up in the driveway of Hannah's house, I looked at my face in the mirror and saw puffy eyes, red cheeks and smudged mascara. I tried my best to calm down before I walked into the house, although I already knew no one in the Davis family would judge me.
I walked slowly up the the huge front door and opened it without even bothering to knock first. As soon as I was inside, Alexa, Hannah's older sister, walked up to me and gave me a hug.
Alexa was smart and very beautiful, but also shy and quiet. She was always very nice to me and I even thought of her like my older sister sometimes.
As soon as she started to pull away, I pulled her back in and totally lost control. I wasn't planning on crying until I was alone but knowing Alexa wouldn't judge me made me feel safe crying in front of her.
She embraced me tightly making me feel not so alone anymore.
"It's going to be ok Aria. Don't worry we are all here for you. We will look after you, I will look after you," as she was saying this I heard footsteps coming from the corridor to my left.
I slowly pulled away and wiped my eyes as I turned to see who it was.
It was Jordan. Hannah's other older brother, but Alexa's younger brother.
I guess everyone in this house already knew about my parents, because it looked as if he had been crying as well.
Jordan and my father always got along well, they were really close.
"Hi Aria. It's ok, you aren't alone. You're not the only one who will miss them," he said nicely "But we are all here for you, to help you get through it."
Jordan has always been the sweetest boy I knew.
"I know," I said simply and walked up stairs to Hannah's room.
Hannah seemed to be sitting on her bed waiting for me, as soon as I walked in she just looked at me and smiled slightly. I could definitely tell she had been crying too by the way her nose was red and mascara slightly smudged.
I went and sat next to her and laid my head in her lap. She held me gently while I slowly let the tears pour out from my eyes.
