The next day, your back still ached, but it was tolerable. At least you could actually move now. Miguel was skeptical at first, debating on making you take the day off or not, but you managed to convince him. Especially with the new recruit, Gwen Stacy.

You didn't exactly have precise teaching skills, but you remembered observing the way Jessica would mentor Hobie. Given that Hobie was difficult to handle, you thought showing Gwen the way would be much easier.

"Good morning, Gwen." You wave at her with a smile.

She gave you an awkward, "Uh, morning."

Her social skills reminded you of how Miguel used to interact. This made things even easier for you.

"So, you ready to start your first day?" You say excitedly, clapping your hands.

She gives you a small smile, "Yeah . . . Let's do it."

On the way around the area, you find yourself telling Gwen about canon events, and what anomalies are. You tried your best to simplify things as best as you could, and thankfully she was able to catch on. The tour of the main building went by fairly quickly, so you take her to meet Jessica who happened to be scolding Hobie. Jessica wasn't exactly Hobie's mentor, because he was so stubborn and ignorant. Therefore, she was only there to give him tips or to scold his mistakes. That's all he would really allow so far.

"Hey, (y/n)." Jessica sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose.

Hobie smirks at you, giving you a nod of his head. You give him a look that tells him to 'knock it off' and turn to Gwen with a small smile.

"This is Jessica Drew, and this is Hobart Brown."

"Just Hobie, mate." Hobie shrugs.

You see Gwen and Hobie click almost immediately, instantly divulging into each other with questions. With each discovery of common interests between the two, their faces lit up more and more. It was cute to watch, to see Hobie actually getting along with someone else. You'd never guess Gwen would be into his punk personality either.

"Finally, someone to get him off my back." Jessica rolls her eyes, stroking her stomach.

You turn to her with a worried look, "Are you sure you should still be working, even with a baby on the way? It's become more . . . evident."

She smiles at you, putting a hand on your shoulder. "I'm fine, girl. Don't worry about me."

"By the way," you smirk, "Is your husband still keeping it a surprise?"

Jessica sees that you're referring to the gender, "Oh, yeah. Corny as ever."

You both giggle to each other as Hobie and Gwen start walking off together.

"I'm gonna hang with Hobie for a bit. Uh, if that's okay." Gwen turns on her heels to face the two of you.

You exchange a questionable glance with Jessica, who only shrugs. You trusted Hobie to be mature enough to not put anyone in danger, but you knew something was bound to go wrong or messy.

"He'll give you a tour--only, a tour." You point a finger with a glare at Hobie, who throws his hands up in surrender. "I don't want you two to go anywhere else or to mess with anything. Especially since Gwen is still so new and doesn't know everything yet."

"Don't worry, Beaut. I'll watch her closely like binoculars." He muses, turning back to walk away. Only, he runs straight into a large obstacle. And that obstacle was Miguel O'Hara.

"I don't think so." Miguel glared down at him.

Hobie scoffs and rolls his eyes, "What's Jumbo doing here for?"
