Just a couple of context details: Rosaline is visiting Garreth and his family over summer holiday. This picks up the evening she arrives.

Dinner was a friendly affair. Gregory asked how her second term at Hogwarts had gone, and Rosaline explained her exams and the results of her OWLs. Gregory didn't make much eye contact, but his head was titled her way, his gaze lingering somewhere in the distance.

"Oh, well done, dear!" Charlotte reached over and grabbed Rosaline's hand and shaking it, "I am sure your parents are so proud!" Garreth and his father exchanged glances. Charlotte hadn't been present and winter break, and while they had discussed Rosaline's family dynamic, she hadn't experienced the difficult relationship she shared with her parents.

"I any case," Gregory said, with a smile and a wink, "We are certainly proud."

"And grateful!" Charlotte added, "Without your help, who knows what kind of marks Garreth might've had."

"Mum!" Garreth cried, a look of disbelief crossing his face.

"I didn't do much," Rosaline interrupted, voice warm, but even. "Just offered some motivation is all." She continued to eat her meal, ignoring the way Garreth relaxed, a noticeable dropping of his shoulders and silence spread for a moment. She glanced briefly towards him, only to find him looking at her already, and she quickly averted her gaze.

Emmeline quickly dispelled the silent spell, suddenly excited to discuss the upcoming faire and reunion, explaining to Rosaline the many cousins she would get to see and the many artisans and shops she wants to visit and the games Garreth just had to plat with her. The rest of dinner passed, this way, filled with light chatter about the week's activities.

"Rosaline, dear," Charlotte said as dinner ended and the plates began to lift themselves from the table, "Why don't you bathe first? You can relax and unpack."

"Thank you," Rosaline said as she stood, hands clasped in front of her and eyes on the ground.

Charlotte hugged the girl, pulling her in by the shoulders, gentle smile on her lips. "Make yourself at home, dear."

Rosaline hurried upstairs, quickly shuffling through her trunk for her nightclothes and dressing gown and a small toiletries bag that contained her comb, brush, and some hair pins, among other things like her toothbrush and a bit of baby powder for a light deodorant. She bathed quickly, but thoroughly, swiping away any trace of sweat with a light ivory soap she found sitting next to the bath.

She emptied the bath with a wave of her wand and dried herself with a large, somehow warm, towel. She pulled on her nightgown, a long slip of light cotton, a bit of ruffling over the short sleeves, and then her dressing gown. It was one of her favorite pieces of clothing. It was pale pink with thin, cream lace detailing. It closed with a few hook-and-eye closures; a joy compared to gowns with ties. They always loosened more than she liked throughout the night. The neckline was higher, scooping just under her throat. The three-quarter sleeves belled at the elbows, a pretty draping of pink and cream over her forearms. She emerged from the bathroom, just as Emmeline and Charlotte were descending the stairs.

"Oh good!" Charlotte said, "Go take your bath, Emma," she said, shooing her daughter down the hall, the two girls squeezing past each other. "Garreth and his father are just closing up for the night. Head upstairs and relax for a moment." Charlotte addressed Rosaline with a smile and a squeeze of her arm.
