Matthew stood atop the apartment building overlooking the city which was painted over with the golden light of the setting sun. He was wearing his titular hero costume which consisted of a black jumpsuit, navy green armored plating on his chest, fore arms, and shins, a brown utility belt wrapped around his waist, a pair of black boots and white leather gloves.

"City sure is peaceful this time of day." He said, basking in the warmth of the golden light.

The sound of rapidly approaching thudding snapped him out of his thoughts, he turned his head to see his son burst through the door that led to the stairs.

Dustin was an exact mirror of his father, say for a pair of bangs which arched over his eyes. He was sporting a red track suit and black sneakers with weight straps to his wrist and the ankles, his aura just barely leaving his jacket.

He hunched over, putting her hands on his knees while breathing heavily, he'd ran about two city blocks without stopping to catch up with his father and that incredibly long flight of stairs certainly didn't help to make the endeavor any easier.

"Hey, you made it!" Matthew greeted, hopping over to his son.

He placed hand on Dustin's shoulder, who could only look up at his father with heavy breaths as his aura faded.

"Why two blocks?" He managed to wheeze out.

Matthew Simply smiled and stepped out of the way to allow his son to see the view. Dustin stood upright and looked outward to the cityscape before turning to his father, a confused expression spread across his face.

"You hear that?" He asked, cupping on hand around an ear.

"Traffic?"

"No-well, yes....but I'm talking about the sound of peace. Folks goin' about their days without incident, Pigeons flyin' around lookin' for cars to shit on, But most importantly, not a damn villain in sight." He explained, walking to the edge of the building.

"This is what a hero strives to accomplish, even at the cost of their well being." He added, looking to Dustin as he stepped next to him.

Dustin, who'd finally caught his breath, placed his hand on his chest and felt his heartbeat. His heart was racing from the nonstop journey from the downtown to here, a trip that required everything he had and then some to achieve his goal.

Dustin's eyes widened as he came to the realization of just what it was his father was trying to teach him. Matthew noticed the change in his son's expression and smiled.

"Well, looks like you've figured it out." He said.

"The lesson is obvious when you've got all the pieces, but couldn't you have just sat me down and talked about it like other heroes?" Dustin asked.

"I could've, but this was a much better way to drive the lesson home." Matthew responded, tapping his son on the side of the head.

"If you want to be a true hero, then you should know that the people come first. Like you said, a simple lesson but the most important of them all."

Dustin rubbed the spot that his father poked while pondering his words. A lot of heroes, especially nowadays, are focused on showing off and making a profit from their work. That may seem alright to some but the very core of being a hero is putting others before one's self, those that understand and exercise such a basic principle to its fullest extent are true heroes.

"That'll be all for today, bud. Let's head back." Matthew said.

"Think you can carry me?" Dustin asked with a groan.
