Thanksgiving break was coming up quickly, and Caleb was not hiding his excitement at not having to be at school for over a week. (the way the school scheduled it, the kids got a week and 2 days!)
Sam and Caleb each had plans that they worked around each other. Caleb's family always did Thanksgiving a couple of days early so they could get started on Christmas as early as humanly possible. It wasn't hard to convince Caleb's family to work around Sam's family's plans of having Thanksgiving the day of.
Here's their game plan-
1. Spend that Monday and Tuesday with Caleb's family
2. Leave Caleb's house Wednesday morning and arrive at Sam's hometown Wednesday evening
3. Spend Thursday and Friday at Sam's
4. Drive back home on Saturday
Easy enough, right?
Of course, Sam hadn't exactly explained to his family who his plus one was.
He's told them that he had been re-paired and that the little was still settling into things. They immediately wanted pictures, a meeting time, and information about gifts. However, all Sam told them was that they would meet him on Thanksgiving and that they just had to be patient.
Obviously, this was left with more questions, 'It's a boy??', 'Why do we need to wait that long?', and the guilt-tripping comments from his mother, 'You mean,' pause for a sniffle, 'I can't meet my brand new grand baby yet??'
Needless to say, he was going to have his hands full during Thanksgiving week, and not just because of a bratty Caleb.

"Sam, I'm not making them hand turkeys, you can't make me," Caleb argued, turning his head away from Sam, which didn't do much because he was sitting in the middle of Sam's lap.
"I'm not making you, I just think it would be cute. Plus, I bet they'll all die for it." Sam rolled his eyes.
All he had asked was what Caleb wanted to do for his family to show them that he was grateful. Thats it.
"They see me as a two-year-old now anyways, I don't want to keep feeding into that narrative."
"Thennn-" Sam dragged on, "Make one for your parents and Nick. Easy peasy."
Caleb thought for a second, and then his face dropped, "My mom'll post it on Facebook or something and everyone else would be jealous."
Sam chuckled, "Well, looks like you have to make them all one then, squirt."
Caleb groaned, "Fine I'll do it, under one condition..."
"Which isss?" Sam looked at him expectantly.
"No pictures, only my family needs to know about this."
"And Cam."
"NO!"
"Yes! Cam has helped you in a bunch of ways, you can give one to him outside of school."
"Nope, not happening. I'll make one for anybody else." He replied, pouting.
"Two pictures, and Cam gets a turkey."
"How about two pictures and no Cam?" Caleb pleaded, giving Sam the puppy eyes.
Sam sighed, then nodded, he had to learn to pick his battles.
The rest of the afternoon was spent by Sam politely asking the art teacher for some paint, Caleb receiving said paint, (also a pinch on his cheek, which he did not appreciate), and Caleb sitting on Sam's lap watching a Disney movie as Sam gently painted Caleb's hands with the paint and Caleb (no so gently) pressing his hand onto construction paper.
