Yellow Eyes (Neteyam x Reader)

The truth..

Y/N's POV

When I wake up, I see that everyone is still asleep. Except for one: Neteyam.

He's nowhere to be found. Did he go somewhere? Is he okay?

I stand up, walk towards the tree trunk and climb down. When I'm on the ground, I see Neteyam sitting a few meters away from the tree. He's making breakfast.

I walk up to him and sit down across from him.

"Can I help?" I ask softly.

He just nods.

I take some of the fruits he found and start cutting it with something sharp he and Lo'ak made a few days ago.

It's silent. Normally I like the silent moments between us, but not this one. This one feels different, like there is some sort of negative tension. I mean, I get it, he's still processing. But I don't trust it, Neteyam is never this quiet. I'm getting frustrated.

"Okay, that's it" I start. "I wanna know what's going on in that head of yours"

He looks up at me. "I'm still processing.."

Then he looks down again.

"I know and I get it, trust me. But I don't like this. We always talk Neteyam, so why can't we now?"

He sighs and drops his knife and the food he's holding. "Maybe because you are the one who's been holding secrets for me"

I sense a bit of anger in his tone.

"Excuse me? So you just expected me to tell you everything the first moment we met?" My tone is also filled with anger now.

"Not the first moment, no. But sometime later would've been nice!"

"Oh so you're saying that you would've believed me right away? We didn't even know eachother back then!"

"No! And now I still feel like I don't know you!"

I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself down a bit. "Okay, then ask me. Ask me anything you wanna know"

He's breathing heavily, because of how frustrated he is right now. Probably even angry.

"What are you?" He asks.

"I'm a lion, or a lioness in my case" I reply.

"And what is that?"

"It's an animal from earth"

"Earth?" He asks, brows furrowing. "That's where my dad is from"

"I know, Tonowari told me"

He's thinking about his next question. "Tell me everything you know"

I nod. "Okay.."

I take a deep breath and start telling. "I can't tell you anything from when I was a baby, because I simply can't remember. Everything I know is because Ronal and Tonowari told me"

He just nods.

"So, I'm human, like your father was before he came here. A lion is a carnivore, an animal who only eats meat. On earth it's considered one of the most dangerous species that exists. I think you can compare me with a Palulukan. They're not as big as me, but we're both strong, fast and capable of killing"

He nods again, understanding the things I tell him.

"But I'm half human and half lion, that's not something normal on earth. After Ronal and Tonowari found me and figured out that I can transform, they took me to Eywa. But Eywa couldn't give any answers, so after a while they decided to take me to some scientists from earth. There were still a few left from the war that happened back then. That's how they found out that my other side is called a lion. The scientists did multiple tests on me, but also couldn't tell why I can transform. So who my parents are, or how I was conceived is still a mystery to us 'till this day"
