"Sir you can't leave this area!" The nurse, Jen, calls from behind the desk as a middle aged man walks up the stairs. I turn to Lexie who's standing next to me, staring at the man. "The whole hospital is on lock-" the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out a pistol and shoots it without warning.

The second the gunshot rings in my ears I'm on the ground with Lexie thrown on top of me, trying to save me from the bullet. I look up at her in shock. I have never said two words to her that she liked. I could always sense she hated me, even though I've only worked here a few weeks.

She looks down at me with panic written across her face. She forces a smile before crawling off me and stands up. She puts her hand out infront of me and waves it in the air.

"Get up!" She whispers screams. I grab her hand and she pulls me up into her arms. She buries me in her chest and shields my head with her arms as we run to the elevator. She jams the button until the door finally opens.

The doors creak open to reveal Alex Karev, Lexies boyfriend or current sex buddy, sprawled across the elevator floor, drenched in blood. Lexie falls backwards slapping her hand over her mouth.

"We gotta help him." I say trying to snap Lexie out of her shock. "Help me lift him!" She rushes to his feet and lifts him with me. We drag him to a conference room and lay him on a table as a single tear rolls down Lexies cheek. "Oh Lex he's gonna be fine. We're gonna help him." I reassure her as I place a hand on her shoulder.

She looks up at me with a look of half fear and half why the fuck is April Kepner talking to me. I assume it's more of the first part but nonetheless, I understand that she doesn't like me nor does she want me around.

After a few hours of trying to sew Alex up, we see a flashlight shine through the hallway. Without thinking, I grab Lexie and crouch under a window to get out of sight. I peek over the ledge a little bit to get a better look at what was going on. I see a few men in bulletproof vests with SWAT written across them trudging slowly down the hallway with their guns pointed.

I duck back down under the window and look over at Lexie who seems to be staring at me. Her face is twisted in a way I'm not sure how to read until i look down and see we are holding hands. I quickly grab my hand from hers and stand up.

"Uh sorry I didn't mean to." I laugh awkwardly but she just stares back without a response.

"What's that!" A man yells shining his flashlight in the conference room. My hands shoot up in surrender as the swat team breaks down the door.

"We're doctors uh-h-h residents. Dr. Lexie-e-e grey and Dr April Kepner." I say squeezing my eyes closed. "And Dr. Alex Karev he-e-e-es the one on the table. He's badly injured and he needs to go to a hospital." He ushers us out of the room and puts a finger to his face to shush us. We sneak out the back exit into the parking lot which is crowded with gurneys and police officers.

"Oh my god Lexie!" Mark yells running over to her. He stops short of her, remembering they're no longer an item. "I'm glad you're ok." He says shyly, this lion of a man cowering in front of Lexie.

"I'm glad you're ok too." Lexie says before instantly brushing him off and following Alex into an ambulance. Standing on the backside of the ambulance as she begins to pull the doors shut, she looks at me. Her hazel eyes scan my body, drenched in blood, before slamming the door.
