My pager goes off, jolting me out of my head, still sitting on the bench where Lexie left me 10 minutes ago. PIT EMERGENCY. I lift my self up and take a swift pace walking towards the ER excepting to find countless bodies scattered around, spilling into the surrounding hallways. All covered in blood with limbs cut off and organs ruptured.

Except all I find it one singular patient in Trauma Room 1, along side Owen Hunt and of course with my luck, Lexie Grey.

"Dr Kepner. John Doe, 44, internal bleeding." He lifts the patients t-shirt up to reveal a black and blue chest. "Fix him."

"What? You want me to save him? I-I-I-I'm only a resident! I can't do it!"

"Woah what they're not even doctors? I don't want them operating on me!" The patient speaks up.
"They're doctors, they're just... new?" Hunt says for a lack of a better word. "Can you handle this?"

"I got it don't worry Hunt." Lexie says smirking.

"I do not like the look on that one's face. She seems too excit-" his snarky response is cut off my blood shooting out of his mouth, all over his shirt and Lexie's scrubs.

"He needs a CT!" I say loudly over the bustling noises of a crowded ER.

"Ugh oh my god!" Lexie says disgusted. She wipes her red stained hands on her scrub bottoms and shakes them. "You take him. I need to go change." Before Lexie can reach the door out of the trauma room she's stopped in her tracks by the sound of a frantic beeping.

She quickly jumps to his side and starts compressions. After 30 seconds and no changes she yells, "Don't just stand there, get the crash cart!"

"Holy shit!" I mutter before dragging the crash cart into the room. "I-I-I've never restarted a heart before!"

"Ugh you're completely useless." Lexie says sharply as she shoves me out of the way and grabs the paddles. She rubs them together before placing them on his chest as a jolt goes through them into his heart. "AGAIN!" She screams at the nurse helping with the code. Another jolt sends his body jerking upwards, but still no response from the heart. "Cmon cmon cmon." She panicky whispers under her breath. "AGAIN!!" The final jolt goes through him and he lays stiff as the machines start beeping gently again.

"God." She says stepping back and putting her hands on the back of her head. I run up quickly from the corner I was pushed into to check his heart.

"He-e-e's steady." I mutter quietly.

"Man that was exhilarating. Wasn't that!" Lexie says nudging me roughly.

"Yeah sure." I say, my legs feeling like jelly.

"What the hell was that!" Hunt yells storming into the trauma room. "I should not hear you guys screaming all the way from the ambulance bay!"

"The patient was coding Hunt!" Lexie steps up to him angrily.

"You two cannot put your differences aside for one day? Even ten minutes? To save a patient?" His face shining red as his voice gets louder and louder.

"I'm sorry Dr. Hunt." I whisper out gently.

"This is not how a hospital is supposed to run. You two are a lot more alike than you think." His voice lowering to an inside voice.

"I doubt it." Lexie mumbles under her breath which is met by a stern glare from Hunt.

"You two survived a shooting together. You kept one of your co-workers alive. Together!"

"Co-worker, fuck buddy. Potato, potahto." Lexie punches me in the arm like an older brother.

"You two need to cut this out. As your Chief I'm sentencing you two to a date."

"A DATE?" Lexie blurts out shocked.

"A friend date." He says calmly. "Go to Joe's, get a drink and put us all out of our misery. You're terrorizing this hospital by fighting all the time. I think if you two get to know each other you'll actually become good friends. Who knows! And you two better be there. I'll be coming to check on you two at a random time so if you're not there you're in scut for a month."

"I hate this job." Lexie mumbles before leaving the trauma room along with Hunt, leaving me trying to figure out what the fuck just happened
