Volterra

Prologue

The house was up in smoke, the screams of the parents still inside. Two young girls stood in the smoking house. "Tess you gotta put it out." 17-year-old Madisyn said. Tessalyn VonDrake, stood her eyes red. "I'm trying. I can't get it to put out." she screamed. In the distance the yells of angry villagers could be heard. "Oh god! They're coming closer! Tess hurry!" Syn shouted at her best friend. "Try to distract them, while I try and put this out." Tess screamed. Tess thought long and hard about trying to save the people that treated her as their own daughter.

The fire was slowly starting to disappear, but that one scream from inside the house would change their lives forever. "Help me please!" Marissa VonDrake shouted. She's killing me." she said. Tess turned around to see the villagers dragging Syn to the stake. "Let her go!" Tess shouted. She created a fire ball and shot it at the people holding her best friend. For brief moment the villagers stopped what they were doing and looked at Tess. Fear was clear in her eyes. "Run Tess run!" Syn shouted. Tess turned to run but the Sheriff caught her before she could get away.

They dragged the two to the stake, and tied them to it. "You are being sentenced to death, from the work of the devil and the study of witchcraft." the Sheriff said. Syn and Tess saw the faces of their former friends in the crowd. Two people came up to the two, torches in hand. Suddenly their feet were on fire. They screamed at the top of their lungs, hoping and praying that someone would save them. The fire slowly started to climb up their bodies. The smell of chard flesh lingered in the air. By now the villagers were gone, and it was just the burning Syn and Tess. The ropes were suddenly broken, and the two were pulled off the burning wood.

The two only had seconds left. Tess looked up at the people that saved her. Golden eyes was all she saw before the burning process started, but this time it was much worse, but it would give them a second chance at life, forever.
