Chapter 8

4 Years Later

"Mommy, Hunter was mean to me again today! He pulled my pigtails!" Astrid wails as soon as she steps into the house.

"Marry him" Heather tells her when she runs into the living room to hug me.

I roll my eyes at her, we've stayed close since the reunion four years ago. She's godmother to Astrid and I'm godmother to her daughter.

"Ewww I don't want to marry him!" Astrid's face scrunches in disgust.

Devon walks into the room, still holding her backpack. I wink at him and give him a smirk.

"Astrid, did Mommy ever tell you how she met Daddy?" I ask rubbing her back.

She shakes her head, her face pressed against my chest. Devon makes a noise and a shoot him a look.

"Daddy was very mean to Mommy when we were in school. But what Mommy didn't know was that Daddy was only mean because he liked Mommy" Devon explains, coming over to us.

Astrid looks up quickly from my chest quickly, "Really?"

"Yup" he nods, still looking guilty about it.

I reach over and slip my hand into his, "But many many years later your Daddy apologized and Mommy realized she really liked him."

"Then I was born?" Astrid asks curiously.

"Bout nine months after she forgave him" Heather coughs, casually.

Devon and I both throw her a look.

"Well not right away but yes you were born after. The thing is baby, sometimes boys are mean to girls because they don't know how to tell them they have a crush on them. Does that make sense?" I explain, rubbing her back.

She nods, "So Hunter has a crush on me?"

"Maybe" Devon winks at her.

Her eyes light up, "I'm going to ask him tomorrow!"

She runs off to her room and we all chuckle.

"You know sometimes boys are mean just to be mean" Heather points out.

I climb onto Devon's lap and he immediately places his hands on my big belly. I look over at the small screen on the coffee table that shows us our son is still asleep in his crib. I place a juicy kiss on my husbands mouth.

"Maybe, but I fell in love with my bully."
