After finally decorating my dorm, I decided to go to the cafeteria but as soon as I opened my door I was met by Jake. "Lys, me and some friends are going to the diner if you wanna join". As I contemplated if I should go, a familiar voice interrupted my thoughts. "I told you she's not going to say yes".

Damn that familiar voice. Kaden Matthews, my brother's best friend and the world's biggest fuckboy. The one and only who hated me. "Since when do you know what I'm going to say or do" I scoffed. "I know you princess" He said with a devilish smirk. How I wish I can slap that smirk off his face. "Firstly, don't ever call me that and secondly you don't know a fucking thing about me". "Can you two just chill out please, are you coming or not?" Jake cut in. "Yes, just give me 10 minutes to change"

I shut the door in Jake's face and went to change. I decided to wear a brown and white long sleeve cropped shirt with brown mom jeans and sneakers. Quickly putting my hair up with a clip and adding a little bit of makeup.

As I rushed out the door, I got a text from Jake to meet them outside the building

As I rushed out the door, I got a text from Jake to meet them outside the building. "You took longer than 10 minutes" Kaden said while eyeing me up and down. "Jeez I didn't know you were so obsessed with me". "I'm not" he said nonchalantly.

On the way to the diner I started to get a pit in my stomach, insecurities flooding my body. What if their friends don't like me? What if they are annoyed to hang out with me? I mean I'm a freshman and they are seniors. No way are they going to like hanging out with me. My train of thoughts were stopped with that familiar voice. "You okay princess?" Kaden said carefully eyeing me over. "What do you care" I said with knitted eyebrows. I was confused, since I started high school he never once cared to ask if I was okay or how I'm doing. What changed now?

He could see I was overthinking the whole thing and wanted to say something but decided against it. As the car parked outside the diner, he yanked the door open and rushed inside. "What's his problem?" I asked my brother and he only shrugged his shoulders. We finally joined the table with their friends and Jake introduced me to everyone. "Guys this is my little sister Alyssa" he said with a grin. Really, did he have to emphasize the little part. I smacked his shoulder and gave a tight smile to the group. After all the introductions we decided to order.

Their friend group was nothing like I expected. It was not the usual bitchy girls he would hang out with in high school and the guys weren't total dicks. I recognized Emily, she was in high school with us and absolutely gorgeous and super sweet. She and my brother have always been in love with each other, literally everyone knew that except for them. But the way she and Jake acted now, the arm around her shoulder and the subtle kisses, I knew they were together. "So you two finally realized how you feel about each other" I said with a grin and Emily giggled. "Yes, Jake finally came to his senses and asked me on a date last year and we've been together ever since". I eyed my brother over and smacked him on his shoulder. "Why am I only finding out now" I pretended to look annoyed but in fact I was extremely happy for them. He only gave me a sheepish grin and kissed Emily on the cheek. The rest of the friend group were really cool and nice. And I've never called Jake's friends cool or nice. There was Ryan, the jokester of the group, he had long blonde hair and tanned skin, he kinda had that surfer vibes. There was Riley, she had thick black curls and a long slender body, everyone called her the mom of the group because she would always keep the guys out of trouble.

And then there was Adam, the guy I couldn't help but stare at. He was handsome with dark brown hair that fell down his face, a pearly white smile and forest green eyes. He was the jock of the group, charming and funny. I felt my cheeks getting warm and I got flushed when he gazed into my direction. Oh shit. I looked away and my eyes fell on Kaden's who was staring at me with a disgusted expression on his face. "What!" I said matching his disgust. He only looked away and I decided to use the restroom. Emily followed me and embraced me in a big hug. "Lys, it's soo good to see you, you look beautiful" she said with grin plastered on her face. Hearing that from a girl soo beautiful made my heart swell. I've never considered myself pretty, I thank my insecurities for that. Emily had thick brown curls with blonde strands, beautiful blue doe eyes and flawless skin. I on the other hand had straight, I mean as straight as a pole, honey blonde hair, blue-greyish eyes and my skin was a little sun kissed with freckles and a few blemishes. "Thanks Emily, it's really good to see you too and you are the one that looks beautiful" she grabbed me in a hug once again.

We got back to the table and the guys were bickering about going to the lake and Riley was having none of it. "Tell your boyfriend we can't go to the lake now, it's already 11 pm and we have class tomorrow" Riley looked at Emily sternly. They decided to have a vote and I couldn't help but smile about the new friends I've made tonight. The vote obviously went in favour of the guys and the next thing we knew, we were at the lake. We all hopped over the fence that surrounded the lake and the guys raced into the water. I couldn't help but laugh after hearing them complain that the water is freezing. Jake came running towards Emily and picked her up and all I could hear was "don't you dare Jake Cooper!" Before she was plopped into the cold water. "I seriously don't know why I'm friends with them" Riley said with a shake of her head.

While everyone was drying off, I felt a presence and saw Adam sitting next to me. "Are you having fun?" He smiled playfully. My heart started beating faster and I sheepishly smiled at him. "Yes I am". We all decided to head back to campus and Adam walked me over to my dorm. "I know we just met...but can I have your number please" he blurted out while rubbing the back of his head. It was funny seeing this confident guy faltering over his words. "Sure, give me your phone" I smiled and added my number to his contacts. "Goodnight Alyssa" he said smiling and I returned the smile.

I quickly changed into a pair of sweatpants and an oversized band t-shirt and hopped into bed. I was about to doze of when I heard my phone ping.

Unknown: Hey it's Adam. It was really good to meet you, sleep tight ;)

Alyssa: You too :)

I was about to turn my phone off before hearing a ping once again. I smiled but it was soon replaced by a frown.

Unknown: Why did you give him your number?

Alyssa: Who is this?

Unknown: You know who it is princess

My eyebrows knitted together and I scoffed.

Alyssa: Really Kaden, are you stalking me now?

What the hell does he want from me.

Kaden: For fuck's sake Lys, why did you give him your number?

I could feel the anger in his tone and the bitterness starting to show in my own.

Alyssa: I can do want I want and I certainly don't have to explain myself to you. Bye Kaden.

Kaden: typing...

And nothing. I was furious at him, his not my father and certainly not my boyfriend. What does he want from me. I sighed and placed my phone on my nightstand. And my eyes started to close and I was off.
