Somewhere in between

Chapter 2

I woke up to my roommate shaking me and muttering that we were going to be late. A yawn escaped my mouth and I looked at the time. "Nikki, why didn't you wake me up earlier!" I jumped up and scurried around the room, quickly changing into ripped jeans, a turtleneck and jumper with boots.

She looked at me while I was busy brushing my teeth. "Girl, I've been trying to wake you up for the past 20 minutes, you're a really deep sleeper". I quickly brushed my hair and decided to let it hang down. After grabbing my laptop and bag we rushed to the orientation class. Luckily we were just on time and got seats at the back of the room. "This is so boring" Nikki said while staring at her freshly manicured nails. The class was about freshman orientation and we were happy when it finally ended. On our way over to the cafeteria, Nikki and I got to know each other and realized we had a lot in common. After getting food, I saw Emily waving us over. "Hi Lys, who's your new friend" Emily smiled and directed us to sit down. "You know we are sitting at a senior table right" Nikki whispered and looked worried. "This is my roommate Nikki and this is my brother's friends" I said while directing my head into Jake's direction. "We're your friends too Lys" Emily reassured. After all the introductions, I opened my phone and found 200 unread messages. What the hell? I found the source and glared at everyone. "Really guys, 200 messages" I raised my eyebrows and Ryan said it was regarding the party tonight. "What party" Nikki said excitedly. "It's seniors only" Kaden said in an irritated tone and I glared at him. Jake cut of our staring battle by inviting Nikki and I. "Stop being a dick Kaden, they are allowed to come, it's my party after all" Jake scolded his friend and Kaden stormed away. "What's his problem" Nikki asked and I shrugged my shoulders. After 2 more classes we went back to the dorm to get ready for our first college party, I decided on wearing a short black dress and black boots with my hair hanging down and Nikki did my makeup.

"Gurllll you look so hot" Nikki said with a smirk. For once I actually felt pretty but I wad nothing compared to Nikki, she had long black locks, sparkling eyes and a set of thick scarlet red lips. She was wearing black shorts, a black crop top and black boots. "Damn girl you're going to knock all the guys off their feet" I smirked at her and we both giggled. Emily and Riley came to pick us up since they wanted to gossip before arriving at the party. "So have you guys met some hot guys yet" Riley smirked in our direction. "Yes, all the guys in your group" Nikki fanned her face and all of us bursted into laughter. We continued to talk about different things until we arrived at the party. The music was booming and people were already dancing with their drinks in hand. We finally found our way through the crowd to the kitchen where an assortment of drinks were. "Tequila" we both said in unison and I knew this girl was going to be my best friend.

Shot after shot we found our way to the dance floor where the guys were dancing. After dancing non stop, I made my way over to Adam who was already looking at me. "Hey, are you having fun?" I said with a smirk and he returned it. "Yes, can I get you another drink?" I nodded and followed him to the kitchen. On our way there I saw Kaden tongue deep in some random girl's throat and he winked in my direction and I scoffed, feeling utterly disgusted by his behaviour. Adam gave me a red cup and lead me to the backyard, it was quiet outside with just a few people either getting high or making out. I shivered as a breeze blew over my body and then felt something heavy around my shoulders, Adam was staring intently at me as he gave me his jacket. "You look beautiful tonight" he said and I felt my cheeks flush. He licked his lips and looked down to mine and I felt my heart starting to beat faster. He moved closer and the next thing I felt was his soft lips against mine. Normally I wouldn't have the courage to kiss a guy as good looking as him but the booze was making me do crazy things as it rushed through my body, making it tingle. The kiss increased in intensity and his tongue asked for permission to enter and I let it. His hands were holding onto my face and mine were in his hair, my heart was beating out of my chest and I was breathing heavily. "Get off of her" someone yelled, and for a moment I thought I was caught by my big brother. But Adam is pulled away from me by Kaden who is screaming at him. But I couldn't make out what they were saying because of the haziness of the alcohol. "What the actual fuck Kaden" I said and he grabbed me by the wrist and took me to his car.

"I'm not getting in Kaden, leave me the fuck alone" I spat at him and he was equally pissed as me. Jake came running out of the house and I was relieved to see him. "What's going on dude, where is my sister?" Jake said worryingly and scanned the area looking for me. "I'm taking her home, she's drunk and was making out with Adam" Kaden said while shoving, okay maybe not shoving but helping me into the car. "What the hell, I'm going to beat his ass, he knows the rule" Jake said. "I already did" Kaden said nonchalantly and Jake thanked him for making sure I'm safe. "Just take me home" I scoffed not once looking at him. What was Jake talking about, what rule? I closed my eyes to avoid the nausea that I was feeling and when I opened them again I was on my bed being tucked in by Kaden. What the fuck. He smirked when he realized I was awake and staring at him. "What are you doing Kaden, get away from me". "Calm down Lys, I'm only trying to help" he said softy. "Help me?" I almost choked on my own saliva. "Since when do you care" I yelled and he grabbed me by my shoulders. "You don't understand Alyssa" he said with a frown, while touching my face softly. "Understand what" I looked at him confused and he just shook his head and stormed off.

I decided to go take a shower to calm myself down and changed into sweats. I grabbed my laptop to watch series, not having to wake up early tomorrow since its game day. I texted Nikki that I was at the dorm when I received a message from Adam.

Adam: Hey Alyssa, look I'm sorry about what happened earlier. I shouldn't have kissed you. Hope we can still be friends.

I frowned and wonder if kissing him was a mistake. As soon as I switched my phone off I heard a knock against the door and thought it was Nikki but as soon as I opened it Kaden was standing there. "What do you want now" I said with my arms crossed over my chest, hiding the fact that I was not wearing a bra. "Look Lys, I'm sorry for being a dick...I'm sorry for being rude to you in high school and...I'm sorry we stopped being...friends" He said with a frown. "Why now Kaden? What changed? Because you haven't and neither did I". I said with a shaky breath, trying to puzzle him together. "You chose that our friendship was over, so why care now? I said softly trying to hide the hurt I was feeling. He was only staring at me and thats when I slammed the door in his face. "It was not my choice Alyssa" He whispered to the closed door and walked away.
