"What are you doing here at this hour?" I ask with authority.
"Can I come in? It's a private matter." She whispers.
I open the door a little, skeptical about letting her in.
"Firstly," she begins. "I'm sorry."
I throw a questioning glance at her.
She sighs. "Sorry for setting up your marriage with the Prince." She completes.
"And why is this sudden change in your gesture?" I point out the holes in her apologies.
"I saw something I shouldn't have and I feel guilty for ruining your life, Juliet. I'm sorry." She sobs a little.
"Mind to elaborate?" I ask her.
" I was not peaking or anything. I was on my way to your rooms, to check up on you. I swear. But--" she pauses, looking at me with guilty eyes.
"Don't stop!" I shout.
"Alright alright! I-I saw Kin-King Esculas with a ma-maid near the staircase. At first I thought he was asking her about the stone or something but when I got a closer look--" She takes a deep breath.
"I might not like you being the perfect daughter of our family. But I never wished for your husband to be disloyal. I always wished the best for you." She completes.
I process her words before thinking of a reply. SHE FOUND ABOUT HIS AFFAIR.
"And you will be surprised to know who he was with." She says.
"Who?" King Esculas never mentioned her.
"Your maid." She answers.
My thoughts run wild to find for a perfect reaction.
MY MAID. The King had an affair with my maid and I had no clue. I could have blackmailed him.
Matilda's voice brings me out of my riverine.
"Look, you were an amazing sister, Juliet. But my jealousy made me want you to go away from the house. You getting married was the easiest way out. On top of that, I learnt about your affair with--" She scrunches a bit before continuing.
"With Romeo." I complete instead and she nods.
"That's why I suggested your father to take your marriage to the Prince because his hand was the best you could get that was even better than Romeo. " She whispers his name as if he is a devil she doesn't wish to awaken.
"Your jealousy ruined my life!" I accuse her, starting my act.
"I know, I know. And I'm extremely sorry."
"And now I am stuck with a disloyal husband." I try to sob a bit.
She comes to me and puts her hands on my shoulders from the side.
"You deserve the best. And I have a-an alternative." She suggests.
"Alternative?"
"Yes. I've realised your love for Romeo, Juliet. I have."
"How did you come to support us when few hours ago you were against it?' I raise my brows.
"The King doesn't look at you like he does. His eyes on you while you danced showed how much he cherishes you. He looked so happy like he had his world in his arms. And the way you were comfortable with him--" She pauses.
"You love him just as much as he does. I saw it tonight." She completes.
SHE SAW US DANCE.
"The King can never keep you happy like he can. I saw how uncomfortable you were when he placed his hands on you. You don't love him."
"What is your alternative?" I ask.
She places a small bag on my palms. Then she takes out her ornaments and gives them to me aswell.
"What are you doing, Matilda?" I question.
"Run away. Run away Juliet. Romeo will keep you happy. You deserve the best. Go to the place Romeo stayed while in exile. I'll handle the matters here, trust me." She gives me a comforting smile.
"I can't. I'm the Queen." I inform her.
"Just run away Juliet. Fake your death if you must but go. Be somewhere happy, somewhere safe , somewhere you are loved." She hugs me.
"Tha-thank you." I hug her back.
She might have been the villain in my love story, but she is the best sister I could ask for.
"Do you want me to stay with you tonight? You can use a company after the stone incident." She lets me go.
"No." My answer is instant. "I need some space to think."
Two offers to run away till now. Should I ?
.
.
."So... your sister has finally accepted our love ?" Romeo asks as we cuddle in my new bed.
"She does. Isn't it funny how she was against it and now she is helping us?" I smile against his bare chest.
"It is. So are we running? I'd really love to see our families together for once. Our marriage will force them to stop fighting."
"Trust me, I never wished for more. But with the current circumstances, I don't think it's possible. We'll have to make our happily ever after somewhere away from Verona, much to my dismay." I answer.
"Did you know the King's affair was with your maid ?" He asks.
"Never would I have guessed it. That answers why he thanked me as love when I gave him the sword." I shrug.
"Love is what everyone wishes, but no one gets. His story is also pitiful like ours."
"More hectic. Maybe in another life, we'll get an acceptance from our family. But that doesn't mean we don't get love in this life." I reply and he kisses my forehead.
"I love you. " He kisses me and I don't oppose.
"I love you too." I say between the kisses, catching my breath as he flushes me with more cute kisses. Possessiveness building up with each one.
This moment is perfect as it is.
"Had we gotten the stone, things could have been better." He gives a sad smiles.
"Had we gotten it, could it have been better?" I ask with a notorious smile.
"I suppose so. But we shouldn't give our hopes to something we won't have." He hugs me more.
"And what if I tell you we do have the stone ?"
