Lian has been holding onto the hope of freedom for over a year. Captured by slavers, she knew what her fate was supposed to be - and it was one she would not allow. When the slavers deemed her as unfit for anything other than being a rower on a slave ship, she is given to Sverri. Lian knew what it was like to suffer, but nothing she had ever experienced before could compare to the horrors of being on the ship. But it's there that she meets Uhtred and Finan, the two men that would change her life, and her destiny, forever.
After being freed, Lian didn't hesitate to swear her sword and her life to Uhtred. She had no other path to follow, and she was hesitant to stray from both her new Lord Uhtred and Finan. With them she finds hope, and as the addition of a young dane boy and a baby monk makes their group grow, she discovers that she comes to think of them as family. Lian would give her life for them, and soon finds she may have to do exactly that when ghosts from her own past start haunting her.
