It is summer and you have just moved house. Your new house is a 2 bedroom 2-floor detached house with an attic. It hasn’t been inhabited for years so it requires a lot of repairs.

On the third day since moving in, your mother has a task for you.
“Sweetheart, could you please take these boxes up into the attic?”
“What’s in them?” you ask, examining the cardboard boxes.
“Oh, just some random things like photo albums. There isn’t space to put them in the bedrooms yet.”
“Okay.” You say, holding one of the boxes.
You didn’t have anything better to do as most of your friends were on holiday abroad.

You reach the second-floor landing. On the ceiling, you see the attic hatch. There was a medium-sized ladder leaning against the wall.
“Alright, let’s do this,” you say to yourself.

Quickly, you prop the ladder against the ceiling and climb onto it, opening the hatch, and putting a stick against it so it didn’t close again. Then you grab the box and climb the ladder again.
The attic smelt like dust. You turned your phone’s torch on to look around the attic. Surprisingly, there were a lot of things still in the attic; bookshelves, a table, some boxes and an old-looking TV.
There was one window which was covered in wooden boards, blocking out any outside light.

You put the box you were carrying aside and walked over to the TV. It was covered in a thick blanket of dust. Next to it was a box which was labelled ‘please if you see this, don’t watch any of the tapes. ignore them’.
Tapes? Like VHS tapes? Your father would tell you about them, how they were the old version of the CD.
“You okay up there?” Your mother called up to you.
“Yeah. Did you know there’s a TV up here? Like one of those ancient ones?” you shouted back.
“It must have belonged to the lady who lived here before. The neighbour told me she went missing.”
“Huh.”

You go back down the ladder and get another box. This time you brought some wipes to try to wipe off the dust on the TV and scissors to open the box next to the TV.

You read the warning on the box again. Why would whoever wrote this not want you to not watch the tapes?
Opening the box, you found a lot of VHS tapes. They were all labelled with a peculiar logo with an apple, a little girl and a sheep. The text read ‘Amanda the Adventurer’.
You instantly thought about Dora the Explorer. You remember when you were a toddler and you’d talk back to Dora whenever she’s ask you a question. It wasn’t like she heard you.
Taking a breath, you plugged the TV in an electric socket, turned it on and pushed one of the tapes into the TV.

Nothing happened.

“Maybe it’s broken. Oh well.”
Just as you turned towards the attic hatch, you heard a loud noise. It sounded like a vacuum cleaner. Then you felt something sucking you towards the TV. Your heart started to beat fast as you got lifted off your feet.

Then everything went dark.
