~To The Story~

Your morning started with a slight bump, but luckily it was resolved without anyone getting hurt. Well, specifically you. As for those troublemakers, you couldn't give a shit. Hopefully, this didn't set the tone for the rest of the day. You don't need to put up with any bullshit.

You and Karma separated without saying goodbye when you reached the school. The two of you weren't suddenly friends, but you can safely say you don't hate the guy. He's annoying, sure, but you're happy he was there when he was.

"Hey, (l/n)?" A girl from your class spoke up as she approached your desk.

You had your eyes glued to your notes, but you still acknowledged her with a small hum.

"Some of my friends saw you walking to school with Akabane-kun."

"So?" You mumbled uninterested in this topic already.

"So?" She repeats, taken aback. "Oh, right. You're new to this school." She then went on to explain, talking to you as if you're a child. "You see Akabane-kun is... Well, kinda like a barbarian."

You flickered your eyes up for the first time. Your classmate continued.

"No wait. He is a barbarian." She corrected. "Ever since first year, he does nothing but terrorizes the other students. Honestly, I'm surprised it took the school this long to suspend him and send him to the End-Class. Personally, I would have expelled him after all the trouble he's caused."

"Uh-huh."

"Do you see what I'm saying? He's bad news."

You understand where she's coming from. Karma doesn't hide the fact that he gets into fights. Yes, you did feel unsafe around him when you discovered how much enjoyment he gets from fighting, but that dissolved when he assured you that he wouldn't hurt you.

"He's okay," you shrugged.

At worst, he's just a pest.

"What?" Your classmate blinks.

"I don't feel the need to be scared of him, and so far he hasn't done anything to make me fear him," you simply said.

You thought the conversation would end there, so you started working again. But your classmate kept talking.

"Are you dating him? Is that why you're defending him?"

Her assumption made your cheeks a little warm, yet a little annoyed.

"No." You denied more passionately than you wanted. "I just wanted to walk to school with him."

"Still, you should do what you can to avoid him," she kept insisting.

"Okay, whatever." You went back to your notes, with a small eye roll.

You don't appreciate the 'motherly' act.

Your classmate didn't seem to like how easily you dismissed her.

"Hey." She frowns. "I'm just looking out for you--"

You lifted your head and outright snarled at her.

"I don't need you looking out for me. Leave me alone." Your last sentence came off as loud and aggressive. Loud enough to be overheard by the students talking amongst themselves.

Your classmate eyed you with a stunned look at first but it quickly turned to anger. She scoffed obnoxiously and whipped around to stomp across the classroom to reach her desk.

You don't feel bad for the way you snapped at her. She had good intentions, but she came across as annoying. She was the type to get into everyone's business whenever she feels like it and tries to give good advice to get a pat on the back.
