"Do you think stupidity is hereditary?"

Kiminobu looks up from his notes, simply looking at you while he tries to piece your words together in his mind to gain an understanding of them, despite the lack of context.

Your cheek is pressed up against the surface of the small table, your study materials are pushed to the side to make room for you. Lying sideways, you look up at him from this odd angle.

He smiles. There is no need for him to ask why you are offering up this kind of question. After spending a lot of time together these past few weeks, he feels like he knows you well enough to guess.

"Are you looking for someone to blame if you fail? Your parents perhaps?"

A sigh.

You squeeze your eyes shut in frustration before lifting your face off the wood. Propping your head up on your hand, your elbow resting on the table now, you look at him with a pout gracing your lips.

Kiminobu holds back a laugh. He doesn't want you to end up thinking that he is making fun of you after all. "From the moment we met during our first semester, I knew you were a brilliant and clever person. That hasn't changed in any way. You will do well tomorrow. I am sure of it," he comforts you, the words coming easy to him. They're honest, just as he is. You know your friend would never lie to you.

Letting out a breath, your lips pulling into a small smile. Lifting your hand, you reach out to his face and he holds his breath, looking at you in surprise. Pushing his glasses up, right above his nose, you let out an airy laugh, "You were looking a bit disheveled."

Blinking at you for a few seconds without saying anything, his hand comes up to push up the bridge of his glasses. An unnecessary action, seeing as you had just fixed them for him. He tries to hide his embarrassment. Seeing you reach out to him like that had him hoping for a more tender - dare he even say a more intimate kind of touch.

Glancing over to the clock on your wall, he clears his throat, "It's late. I should be going now."

"Ah! I didn't notice the time!" and with that, you help him gather his books and papers. Joining him on his way to the front door, you open it for him and smile.

"Thank you for helping me study. I appreciate it. You really know how to explain things well! Suddenly all the material from the past three months made sense, when all this time it seemed like some kind of impossible material to grasp," you praise your friend.

Kiminobu simply smiles down at you as he says, "Don't mention it. Of course I would help you with something like that. Good luck! I am sure you will do well tomorrow."

Both of you speak your final goodbyes before he steps away from your door and you close it. With a sigh, you push up the sleeves of your shirt, filled with energy after the short exchange with the boy.

Walking over to your kitchen to grab yourself a glass of water, you look at the utensils you had put out earlier for your baking endeavors. As you empty your glass, it seems like a tempting idea to get started on your sweet plan.
