Life continued.
It has been twelve years since the testing of supervisor skills took place. It is hard to believe it has been seventeen years since I rejected Jocelyn. I enjoy seeing her happy. I had been told I would meet my second chance mate, but I was beginning to think the witch who said to me that was wrong. I was sad I still hadn't met my second chance mate.
I had just finished patrol duty and decided to go for a run. I was close to the river when I heard a pup's whimper. I ran and saw Kathleen, Bruno's daughter, who is 12 years old now, lying on the ground in a ball. She was whimpering. I checked the area quickly and detected no one around. I ran up to her and nudged her with my nose. Her eyes opened. She painfully jumped up and wrapped her arms around me. She clutched my fur, crying, "he is dying. I will never meet him. It hurts. Make it stop."
I let her clutch me and cry. I linked the alpha. "Something is wrong with Kathleen. I am half a mile from the river. I am closer to the cabin we beta stayed at when guarding Jocelyn. Contact Alpha Samson of Mountain View Pack to send a doctor there. His pack doctor is closer than ours." She had cried herself to sleep. She was now lying down at my paws. I walked behind a tree and grabbed some shorts and a T-shirt. I put them on. They were a little tight. I picked up Kathleen and crossed the river into Mountain View Pack Territory. The patrol met me at the border and escorted me to the cabin. I had laid her down on a bed when Alpha Samson, Councilman Goliath, and the doctor showed up. The doctor showed us out of the bedroom.
We were waiting in the living room when Bruno and Wanda showed up. "Where is she," Wanda shouted.
Bruno asked, "What happened to her?" He grabbed me and demanded. "I am going to kill whoever hurt my baby."
Goliath pulled him off me, "Calm down, Bruno. If Kathleen hears you, this will scare her."
I then explained what happened. We all sat down. During that time, a couple of nurses carried a couple of bags. A little bit later, the doctor came out with a severe look on his face. "How is she? Can I see her?" Wanda whispers and yells.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Counselor Meri walked in. I knew her from Jocelyn's Counseling Center. She nodded at me. She sat down. The doctor replied, "Kathleen felt her mate get hurt and pass away. I did some calls; Alpha Alex Sumpter from Keptra Pack lost his second son, Judas. He was 13 years old. It was raining, and they had a flash flood. She felt his pain, panic, and death. I gave her a sedative to rest. I called Mari, who said she could help her with counseling." Wanda turned to Bruno and started crying in his arms.
I felt sadness hit me. I asked Meri, "Do you want me to take you to her?"
She nodded. I stood up, and she followed me to the bedroom. The two nurses stepped out into the hallway when we entered. I hear Kathleen whimper. I quickly walked to her. And touched her hand, and a flash of light happened. I heard Bruno shocked voice growl, what the hell just happened?"
Doc whispered, "Her salvation. They are second-chance mates." Then the world went black around me as I thought, "I'm her what?"
