Kassi entered the room, radiating a beauty that resembled the warmth of the sun. Her long, sleek black hair was meticulously brushed, cascading down her back. She gracefully donned a pink silk gown that accentuated her curves. As she entered, she effortlessly took my breakfast plate and inquired,
"Would you like me to run a bath for you? I stumbled upon this exquisite jasmine-scented epsom salt earlier today. It was handcrafted by someone, and I thought it might enhance your relaxation."
I nodded appreciatively, grateful for Kassi's thoughtfulness. Once again, she assisted me into the inviting tub, her presence comforting as if she were my closest confidante. Our friendship had blossomed since the day she fearlessly defended me from bullies on the playground during our 5th-grade years. As I immersed myself in the warm water, a profound sense of tranquility washed over me, amplified by the gentle touch of the epsom salt against my skin.
With her collection of various accessories, Kassi returned with a delicate pink slip scrunchy, securing my hair in a ponytail, freeing my neck from the weight of damp strands. A mirror I had installed in front of the tub reflected Kassi's serene smile, putting me at ease. With a sponge in her hand, she began to tenderly cleanse my back, her voice barely above a whisper.
"So pretty," she murmured, her cheeks flushing with a hint of embarrassment, offering a heartfelt compliment that made me feel cherished.
As Kassi complimented me, her words tinged with a touch of bashfulness, I opted to feign ignorance, knowing how she often felt a bit embarrassed when caught expressing admiration. "What did you say?" I playfully inquired, my tone full of amusement. She stumbled over her words, insisting it was nothing of consequence. Chuckling softly, I affectionately referred to her as silly.
Leaving the bathroom, Kassi granted me privacy to finish bathing. Eventually, I called her back, requesting her assistance in getting out of the tub. She reentered the room, in hand my long white t-shirt and a long flowing navy blue skirt. With genuine care, she informed me, "I've picked out your outfit for today. Do you need help with your hair or makeup, or anything else?"
Expressing gratitude, I declined her offer, stating my desire to embrace a day of relaxation. "Thank you, but I'm good. I want to feel at ease today, so I appreciate your choice of clothing," I replied, acknowledging her thoughtfulness.
After drying myself off, I undid the ponytail, allowing my hair to cascade freely in its natural, wash-and-go style. With my fingers, I delicately separated the curls, ensuring they fell just the way I liked.
Once dressed, I couldn't resist the urge to check my phone. It was then that I noticed Kieran's text, informing me of their imminent arrival within the next ten minutes. Hastily, I grabbed my bag, making my way towards the front door, taking note of how my ankle, though still slightly sore, seemed to be improving from yesterday's discomfort. To alleviate any lingering pain, I quickly swallowed a couple of painkillers.
Meanwhile, Kassi retrieved her emerald green translucent bag from the hook by the front door, announcing, "I'm off to work." As the fashion editor at Charmed, the renowned magazine, Kassi had established herself in the industry. As for me, I harbored dreams of becoming a fashion designer for Charmed as well, but under an alias. I yearned to maintain an air of mystery, someone recognized solely by name and unique designs rather than by face, preferring to remain a hidden force within the fashion world.
Peering through the window, I observed Kassi strutting down the driveway, her long black hair billowing gracefully in the wind. With a flick of her hand, she retrieved her car keys and effortlessly slid them into the keyhole of her Jeep. Just as she was about to pull off , a sleek grey Audi convertible glided to a stop. It was Kieran, who had arrived without the customary text notification of "I'm outside". Which our generation seemed to be fond of doing.
