It was just another night like all the others. Cassie went to Nate's house, wanting to spend some quality time with her boyfriend, instead they would have sex and then immediately after get into a fight about the dumbest things.

What was the top of argument tonight? Cassie's best friend [Y/N]. Nate had brought him up out of nowhere, stating he didn't like him and that set Cassie off. She never let anyone insult [Y/N], not even her boyfriend.

"Why do you care so much? He's a useless dick. Honestly, we'd all be better off if he just disappeared."

"How fucking dare you!" Cassie screamed. "How could you say something like that?"

"It's true."

"No, it's not. He is amazing. He's sweet and kind and funny and he doesn't deserve for you to be talking about him like this." Her face went red with anger.

Nate stared at her for a moment before his eyes narrowed, a rage brewing behind them. "Now I know why you care. You've got a thing for him, don't you?"

Cassie halted in her movements. That was something she hadn't been expecting him to say. It caught her off guard. "What? You're crazy."

"You didn't answer my question." Nate took a step forward which made Cassie take a step back. "Do you have a thing for him?"

"Of course not." She tried to keep her voice confident so he couldn't tell she was lying. [Y/N] had been someone she had been in love with for as long as she could remember. They had grown up together and he was the first person who had showed her true kindness and taken care of her, but one drunken night when she had told him, he had rejected her, saying he didn't feel the same way.

The next time she had seen him, she had pretended she was so drunk that she didn't even remember what she said so there was no awkwardness. It had worked so far, but Nate bringing this up was bringing back memories.

"Holy crap, you do." Nate scoffed. "If you're gonna lie about it, get a bit fucking better at it."

"I'm not lying!" She yelled.

"Why don't you go be with him then?" He wasn't listening to her anymore. "Or does he not want you either? You're to used for him to touch you? Maybe he's not as stupid as I thought."

His words hit her hard and she could only open and close her mouth a few times. "Bye." Was what she mumbled out before grabbing her bag and going to rush out, ignoring his calls for her to stop and come back.

He had picked her up so she ended up walking the streets by herself but she wasn't alone for long since she had rang [Y/N], asking for him to come pick her up.

He arrived only ten minutes later and she got into his car. He saw the tear stains on her cheeks. "Cassie..." He said softly.

She didn't say anything and leaned over to rest her head on his shoulder and wrap her arm around his middle. Why couldn't he love her back?

Then everything would be okay.
