Dear John,
How I wish there was another way, a solution, a way out. I would do anything for there to be one. But it is simply impossible. I cannot think of a single way that we should be able to remain together after the end of this war.
You, John, are simply the bravest and most kind man I have ever met, and for that you will always have my respect. I must be one lucky man, to have met a man like you during the most desperate times in my life. Somehow, through the darkness, the violence and the bitter cold you give me hope. A hope that I believe no other man could ever comprehend under these circumstances. I love you dearly. Nothing will ever change that, even if we are forced to spend decades apart in the lives that society has planned.
Love from James.
