Akamu's POV
Beating up people is one of my greatest hobbies. I tend to find it... soothing. What I don't appreciate is being the one that is getting the short end of the stick. Tsu, a veteran here in the tribe, had never lost a duel. As she stands before me, that wasn't going to change anytime soon.
Miraculously, I kept up with her agility. The sand scrapped my knees as I dove away from her spear. It was only my third fight, too early to quit. Tsu threw herself on me as I twisted my legs around her abdomen. My thighs wrapped around her torso as she ate the ground.
"Tsu finish her!"
"You'll run 20 laps if you lose, Amu." Muttered Toku as he sipped a mysterious liquid from a canteen.
I couldn't tell you how many were witnessing my struggle against this woman. Tsu specialized in combat, leaving me to fight with a beast.
Our sweat shimmered with the heat and the taste of metal became a common flavor on my tongue. I tried to avoid her incoming jabs. Yet she continued to be relentless.
"You're getting faster." She chuckles, coughing out the sand stuck between her teeth.
"You're three times my age. That should tell you something." I snickered.
She rolls her eyes as she catches my fist. A low hum comes from her throat as she tosses me across the sand. My teeth clench as my limbs burn from the impact. She gets a hold of my legs, ready for another throw. Without warning, Tsu falls to her knees as she cries out for help. With her hand releasing my aching arms.
"Tsu?" I asked.
She continues to yelp as her fingers rub hastily on her hips. It didn't take me long to realize what it was. Tsu had been getting old, yet I hadn't realized that it was affecting her physically this early on.
My heart sank as I stepped forward to help her up. Only to be stopped by others coming in to rush to her injury.
"I didn't think my hip would take me out." She tilted her chin to the left to get a better view of me. "Don't take this as a win child." She sneered.
"Wouldn't dream of it."
Time and time again, Toku made me fight another contender. I was on my fifth before Samo and another Navi boy interrupted Toku, bringing another person to the match.
I'm tired and my muscles ache. This was one of the traditional ways of punishment. Fight till you no longer can. I could fake my loss, but Toku knew how well my stamina is. I
I waved my hands, signaling that I needed a pause. My breaths staggered as my skin shined with oncoming sweat.
"Look who came to join us for the evening." Taunted Samo
I didn't pay attention to the boys as Toku offered me his canteen. The unknown liquid burned my throat as my taste buds withered in disgust. I scrunched my brows as I wiped off the droplets on my chin.
"What the hell is this?" I stammered, shoving back his bottle. "Poison isn't the best way to get rid of me."
"No, but the next duel would." He replied. Nodding his head to whoever was behind me.
I scoffed at the man as I turned my back to see the trio. There I couldn't help but show the irritation on my face. Neteyam had positioned himself so that if I threw a punch, he'd easily avoid it with no trouble.
"What kind of business does this little boy have with us?" I asked.
I rubbed fresh dirt on my palms as I began to prepare for my next match. There I could see Samo and Toku communicate with their eyes, a new idea blooms into their idiotic minds.
