Martha Washington had been in labor for 10 hours. Her husband, George Washington stayed with her. So did their oldest daughter, Mariana. She was only 6. They had been living in England since Mariana was born.
The baby was born. She had pale skin, like her mother. She also had freckles.
The only problem was, she was tiny, very tiny. And the Washington's had to get to America. Fast.
Martha wrapped her in a blanket and George picked up Martha and ran to the dock. They got on a ship that was headed to America. And off they went. To the independent nation.
