Chapter 10

'Is everything okay?'

'She took a fall and called after she had gotten it under control.' From his body, it seemed that he was feeling helpless over here. I walk towards him.

'She must be okay. Just video call her once. I am sure she would be smiling.' I say looking at him. He nods a yes and I walk back into the house. It was Khushi's day, the last function of her wedding. Siddharth also wants to see her and I need to make that happen.

'Is Siddharth on his way?' I questioned Arjun. He seemed better now.

'He is on his way.' I nod my head, a little too much in excitement. It was supposed to be a surprise for her. She has been waiting too long for this. She waited to belong to someone, to be loved by someone and I am pretty sure Siddharth's parents might have had some reservations about her par meri Khushi ko kaun hi mana kar sakta hai.

In another ten minutes, Siddharth was here. The intricate detail was he had Khushi's name on his hand within a heart, he deserved her. She lit up when she saw her behind the pillar. They couldn't meet in front of the ladies, it was unorthodox to them.

'Maa, I am taking Khushi with me. How long is she going to sit still right here? She needs food.' Obviously, that was an excuse. I could make her eat food while she sat there but she couldn't meet Siddharth sitting there.

'That was a task now.' I say to no one in particular. I look at Arjun and he gave a warm and comforting smile.

                                                                                                     .        .       .

Khushi quickly hid her hands behind her back, she couldn't let him see her mehendi.

'What are you doing here? You can't see my mehendi.' She exclaimed and Siddharth's face now had a pout on it.

'I have come all the way here and now you are kicking me out? Why?'

'Because you can't see my mehendi before the wedding. It isn't fair.'

'But anyhow I am the one to see it. Show me your hands, please.' He demanded but Khushi didn't really give in to his demands and kicked the door lightly with her foot. Meera opened the door without a delay. Siddharth exclaimed how beautiful she looked before letting her go.

'Khushi beta, come sit here.' Maa roped her right into it once again. She thanked her bhagwaan that no aunties were behind her asking 'when she was going to get married?' It just became irritating after a point.

'Meera, the wedding date is decided. This day after two weeks.' Well, two weeks till both of them leave. Arjun is also going to leave the morning after. How it is that I have anticipated these moments since we were little and when it is in front of me, I don't want to touch them?

I don't want him to leave. Read my eyes, Arjun, and stay. He was looking right here and he couldn't see it or maybe he didn't want to. It's his passion to serve the country. I don't want to take that away from him. I don't have any right to, also. Is a month enough? We barely know each other and the next time will be six months later. He sat there again at the far end of the room. The ladies continued with their program and my phone rang. It was a reminder of my work to be done. Ugh, I hate it sometimes.

He did try to shake the worry off of him but he couldn't help it. Even when the ladies dragged him to the dance floor. He probably wanted to leave.

'Do you want to leave?' I ask settling beside him, even if he wanted to see his mother he could be back here for the wedding.

'If you want to go see Aunty, you should.' I said, keeping my hand gently on his shoulder. Chandigarh wasn't far away.

'You can make it for the wedding, it is not that far away.' He keeps his hand over mine. Now, Maa must have seen this but I don't think she minds. She likes him and knows him.

                                                                                         .      .       .

'Meera, come here.'

'Haan, Maa.'

'Serve the guests.' She says with a smile and cupped my face with one hand. Well, she knew. She has wanted me to be happy again for a long time now. I am happy now. That was really all she has ever wanted.

'Maa, aap khush ho na?'

[Aap khush ho na – You are happy, right?']

'Of course, I am happy. My baby is in love.' Well, she also had sadness in her eyes. We both knew why it was there. It was the uncertainty that was clouding her eyes. Our relationship, if it was that, had an undeniable amount of uncertainty. What was the guarantee I was going to see him again in six months? There was none. The leaving ladies distracted us. In fifteen minutes, the function was over.

'Meera, where are you?'

'Now, she is remembering me.' I laugh with Mumma. Vaidehi had come in the end. She wanted to put her little effort into Khushi's mehendi.

'MEERA' She shouted again and I ran to her.

'Yes, I am here. What happened?'

'WHAT HAPPENED? I am getting married in two weeks and I don't have a wedding dress.' Well, it is Bridezilla time officially.
