Early next morning, Trisha entered the bathroom and scribbled a secret message in a paper: Dbo J ifmqzpv? J bnbuzpvsipvtf.

It was a simple method. Replace the alphabet with the succeeding one, which when deciphered read: Can I help you? I am at your house.

She folded the chit and placed it on the crack. It happened in a flash. As soon as the paper touched the mirror, it flapped away from her fingers and disappeared.

Trisha withdrew her hand in panic. Did it really happen? She thought, and then whipped around to check if the mirror really swallowed it.

She had just looked under the mirror when something fell on her face and tumbled on to the sink. ‘It’s just an illusion,’ she thought. She was dejected. It hadn’t worked. Trisha kneaded the paper between her fingers and then unfolded it. She read the first line.

This is Nikky’s friend Loocidoh.

A sudden excitement caught Trisha and she continued to read.

We are trapped here too but not for long. Take the powder that we are sending in the next chit and rub it over the cracked portion of the wall-mirror and on places you know Rikky is sure to touch. Be discreet though. All will be well in a few hours.

Trisha was confused. Loocidoh? Rikky? Powder? She decided not to think much and just follow the instructions.

A second chit fell on the floor a minute later. It contained a yellowish-blue powder. Trisha got down to business immediately.

She took some powder between her fingers, making sure she didn’t drop even a speck of it, and smeared it over the crack, rubbing the extra bit all over the mirror. She thought of sprinkling it on the toothbrush but then decided against it. It would be too close.

She waited for things to unfold.
