Guilty As Charged

Chapter Three - Nathan

 'Amy!' Mom screams so loudly I almost drop the plates I'm holding to cover my ears.

'What?!' Amy yells back, obviously in her room on a call with her friends, showing them around her house. Unlike me, she doesn't cut contact with her friends. Instead, she phones them daily, neglecting me and mom. And mom doesn't make her go to school. Apparently she doesn't need to go.

I quickly put the plates on the table and then rush out of the room and into my room, where I cover my ears before they have a screaming contest. Again.

'Nathan!' I hear banging on my door and I groan. 'Yes?' I remove my hands from my ear as the door swings open and Amy bursts in, her face alight. 'I'm going to your school!' she exclaims, sitting down on the bed next to me. 'Who's popular? Who should I befriend? Who's nice, who's stuck up?!' she throws questions at me, and I answer distractedly, my mind turning to Olivia.

I don't know what to think about her and her clique. Although she seems friendly enough around them, it's obvious she doesn't actually enjoy their company.

'NATHAN!' yells Amy in my ear. 'Answer me when I talk to you!' 

Urgh. I just want to be alone without Amy pestering me. 'Go away!' 

'That's not fair!' Amy answers, angrily. 'You have to tell me! Please, big brother?' she looks at me pleadingly and I can't help but give her a small smile.

It was obvious that she would just use them for popularity, so why tell her? Smiling, I think of the kid who was alone, who didn't seem to have any friends. 'His name is Jacob, he's so popular. Everyone wants to be his friend, but he chooses them selectively.' 

'That's great! Thanks, brother. Now I shall rule this school!' I roll my eyes as she leaves my room and starts screaming loudly, to the point where Mom yells at her. 

How funny people are sometimes.
