It was the first day of December. This was one of the most blissful times of the year for the Night Shade Wolf Pack. We hosted all our winter festivals, our feasts with other packs to keep the peace amongst the lands, our huge pack hunts, and one of my favorites the winter dance.
Oh how I loved the winter dance. Everything about the winter dance was so miraculous to me. The scenery was always so beautiful because it was always hosted in the Ice Crystal caves. All the female wolves wore dresses that resembled their wolf colors, while the males worr bow ties or ties that resembled their wolf colors.
The reason why the winter dance was so exciting was because most wolves find their mates. Once the full moon hits that's when it happens. I hasn't happened to me yet because I wasn't of age, but this year I would be. I would turn eighteen in a matter of days. That's also why I loved December because it was my birthday month.
Mates are a very important thing in our world. A mate is your soulmate, your everything, your someone special, or your true love. Mates are picked by the Moon Goddess, she knows best. Once you find your mate, two souls connect and become one. The mate bond is the most powerful and most beautiful bond a living thing can have.
However, wolves can still choose their own mates. It happens, but it is rare. If a werewolf mate dies, or they simply rejected the wolf the Moon Goddess picked for them. It is frowned upon to choose your own mate, especially in the Night Shade Pack because we take wolf traditional values very seriously.
I have always dreamed of finding my mate, it was such a beautiful thing in the werewolf world. I always dreamt of who might be my mate. A tall, muscular man. Who had dark brown hair, and dark eyes. A man who reeked of dominance, but had a soft spot for only me. A man who would had a heart, who cared for everyone and not only himself—
"MIONA BREAKFAST!" Miguel yells, from down the hallway.
"COMING!?" I scream back, jumping off my bed and running towards the hallway.
It's always been my brother and I. Our parents died in a forest fire when I was the age of ten. Humans ambushed our old hunting grounds. My father was the former beta wolf. My parents died protecting our lands and our former Alpha.
Luna Amanda told the pack, they did the best they could and all the other wolves that died with them. However they succeeded, the humans weren't able to discover more land or come close to our homelands.
Our Alpha also passed away that day, causing their heir Alpha Jungkook to grow up a lot faster and complete his Alpha training earlier than expected. It was a devastating time for our pack. But we got through it together, and we stayed strong for Luna Amanda. I couldn't imagine what it feels like to lose your mate.
"So any plans for your eighteenth birthday?" Miguel asks, pouring himself some coffeee.
I shrug my shoulders as I spread the strawberry jam onto my semi burnt toast.
Miguel wasn't the best in the kitchen, but hey A for effort right?"I just can't wait to shift into my wolf and find out what color I am." I say, excitingly.
"Your first shift is definitely going to be unforgettable, you've become quite the woman." He says, kissing my cheek.
"All thanks to you, you've helped me grow into the person I am becoming." I say, giving him a soft smile.
"I should head to the pack house, Jungkook keeps mind linking me it must be important." He then says, grabbing a piece of toast.
