Y/n: Your name

Somewhere in one of the schools of Tokyo, a young eleven year old girl named Y/n looked out the window of her classroom. There was a flash of light out of the corner of her eye, and her head turned ever so slightly in that direction.

It was a thin notebook, pure white with sparkles that glinted from the sunlight, and although it looked like it'd been dropped onto the muddy ground and stomped on a few times, the book showed no signs of a scuffle nor did it have any dirt or grime on its flawless pages.

The little Y/n was smart enough to know that this was unsettling. So when the bell rang, signaling that school had ended, she curiously stepped up to the peculiar item, inspecting it. The notebook was titled, Life Note. It didn't seem dangerous to the girl, so she picked it up and flipped to the first page.

The first perfect page was filled with elegant, swooping black letters that were too perfect to have been written by any living thing.

The human whose name is written in this note will be given a second chance at life.

Y/n blinked in pleasant surprise. Surely this couldn't be real. She was old enough to know right from wrong, real from fake. And this was either a prank or a sort of chain letter.

Nevertheless, being the ever-so-curious girl that she was, Y/n took the Life Note home.

In another part of Tokyo, the son of Soichiro Yagami, age twelve, was reading up on physics 'for fun,' while his sister Sayu, age nine, looked on in both awe and confusion.

~~~
Somewhere completely different, in Winchester, England, nineteen-year-old L Lawliet was eating a piece of cake.
~~~

Everything was set into place. In just five years, these three unsuspecting children would be caught in a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

Okay, that was really short(365 words). I promise the later chapters will be longer. Tbh this just started out as a midnight lightbulb *ding*, but I've decided to actually write it down and go with the flow because I never really have any plan.

Well, yeah, that's basically it. Here's hoping I'll finally finish one of my works!
