"I am L."
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
Y/n's POV:
I freeze for a second in surprise, then carry on to sit down in my seat. What was that?
"Ooo, this is getting goood," Karma coos in my ear. "I knew coming down here was a good idea! Do you mind buying me some popcorn later?"
Sure, I answer absentmindedly as my thoughts are somewhere else. Why did the Ryuga person say that? And is he telling the truth?
Luckily I don't have anything else to distract me from my thoughts. All I need to do is keep calm and stay still as if I'm paying attention to the rest of the ceremony.
Obviously, the name Hideki Ryuga is an alias. It is not a simple coincidence that the man was named after the pop star. Say the fake name was to cover up his true identity, assumably L. He's a unique person, that's for sure. He got perfect scores on the entrance exams like me and Yagami, so he's definitely smart.
But L would never just come out and say that he's L, especially where other people, apparently me, could hear. And why is he telling Yagami? I get he's working with the police, but meeting the chief's son isn't relevant to the Kira case.
Well, maybe it is. Light may very well be a suspect. Everybody is at this point. So if this is to be true, L is saying this to confuse the assumed Kira, or rather to back him into a corner. The other most possible theory is that Yagami is a recruit. The police have been quiet enough for me to assume that there's a whole Kira investigation group, likely including Light's father. And if sons of police officials are to be trusted, Light would make a great detective on the Kira Case.
Another thing comes into my mind. Maybe L wanted to have his existence known, but didn't want to reveal his identity or face. So he'd, theoretically, send a replacement to say it for him. If it was a replacement though, L would want them to look convincing. Ryuga himself looks admittedly strange, and yes, although people say strange is special, which it is, most people would think the greatest detective in the world be...I don't know, older somehow, with authority, et cetera et cetera. To be honest I did think of him as a stereotypical detective as well before now. He's too unconvincing to be a fake, so...
But, on the other hand, I may just be getting ahead of myself. There are so many possibilities of what will turn out to happen, and my brain just named a few.
I stand with the rest of the crowd. It seems the ceremony is over. I sigh. I'll ponder the situation back home.
There's a tap on my shoulder.
I turn, and it's L, or Ryuga to the world.
"I'd like you to keep that to yourself." He says monotonously. It's not a question. And yet it doesn't seem like a command either. Huh.
"Relax, I wasn't going to tell any one anyway." I answer with a shrug.
"Ah." He replies with a sharp nod. "Just making sure then. Have a nice day." He turns and stalks into the crowd once again, calling Yagami's name. He must be out to tell him to keep the secret too.
"This," Karma says, flipping onto her back in the air like she's sitting on a lounge chair, her wings fluttering beneath her as she waves her hand at the calamity around me. "Is going to be so freaking fun!"

"Hey. Y/nnnnnnn..." Karma whines from her place behind me. "When're you gonna get me that popcorn you promised me?"
"Right." I reply, blinking out of my current train of thoughts to make a sudden left turn towards the nearest 7-Eleven.
I'm just thinking about the...peculiar string of events that happened earlier. My traitorous brain has been coming up with more crazy theories every second, and now even I can't keep up with them.
I grab a family-sized bag of popcorn off the shelf and check out, before heading back home.
I open the door to my room and shut it, sitting on the edge of my bed and tossing the popcorn to Karma. She grabs it eagerly and practically rips the bag open.
"So, what do you think of this L dude?" She asks, sounding like a gossipy teenager as she drops herself onto my bed and rests her head on her clawed hands. "Ooo, what about Light?"
I shrug. "I don't know yet."
"Smart," Karma quips, her wings flaying out behind her. "Don't judge a book by its cover, I think is what you guys say."
"That's right. You're learning." I reply with a nod and a short pause. "If you want to come to dinner with me, you've got to put the popcorn away. I can't have a plastic bag floating around."
"Right, right..." The goddess flops over the edge of my bed and tucks her bag of popcorn into a dark corner of the floor under my bed. "Let's go."
As I'm walking down the hallway, Karma hovering behind me with short bursts of giggles, I realize that I'm not getting out of this anytime soon.
Me. Light Yagami. L, or Hideki Ryuga as he calls himself. Our fates have been intertwined from the moment I got within earshot of the two.

I am back! Finally. Sorry for the long wait. School's been busy, and I have a limited schedule.
This chapter is a bit on the short side, but I do hope you've been enjoying it so far. There's been a lot of research I have to do, because I just finished the manga, like, a week ago, and I need to recap on the first few chapters.
Apologies for the long paragraphs in the beginning. I mean to have Y/n be smart, which is honestly something I'm not really, but I'm trying my best. I hope you all can pretty much follow the logic here(even I can't -_-).
Anyways, I'ma go work on the next chapter for God knows how long. Have a good day/night/everything in between!
