L/n: last name

3rd person POV:

*timeskip to five years later*

"Enough." Kizuka L/n said firmly, almost pounding the bundle of papers she was holding onto the desk. Kizuka almost never got violent when angry, even when arguing with her husband she was calm and collected and only fought with words.

Her daughter, Y/n, age 16, sighed. She and her mother had spent a whole summer arguing about this, and still she'd lost the battle.

"You are going to get yourself to To-oh and you are going to take your entrance exams. You got me?" The woman said, looking pointedly at her daughter.

Y/n sighed, knowing it was too late to fight back again. She wanted so hard to be a normal, average girl, but of course she had to be smarter than everyone else and start college a year early.

Without a word, Y/n grabbed her bag, slung it over her shoulder, and headed over to the prestigious college, not exactly happy about this turn of events.

Along the way, many thoughts ran through her head. She knew she could easily 'fail' the exams and come home empty-handed, but she knew that her mother would see right through her, and retrying the year after, if she even could, would be a little shaming and embarrassing.

She could hear Karma encouraging her from behind.

*cue flashback effects*

Within a few days of harbouring the Life Note, Y/n found a peculiar humanoid by the streets in front of her house. She...them...it...whatever the creature was....looked normal enough to just be a random cosplayer wandering around for God knows why, but this...thing was flying. And the apparent fact that everybody else ignored them and went straight through them like they were a ghost proved that whatever this was wasn't human.

Y/n blinked, in case she was hallucinating, but still that the strange creature did, in fact, exist. At least, to her. It seemed like she was the only one acknowledging whatever this was, and as the creature swayed their head, looking for something, nobody payed any attention to them.

Y/n approached her home warily, unsure if this creature was aggressive or not. But as soon as she stepped within five meters of the creature...

"There you are!" Whatever it was said in a cheery voice, a bit loud for Y/n's liking. And yet, despite the sudden loud voice, nobody near them turned their head once.

"Who...what are you?" Y/n replied, still reasonably suspicious.

"Ah, yes, you must be so confused." The creature said with a slightly concerned smile. "I'm Karma, it's nice to meet you! My pronouns are she/her."

Y/n tilted her head, many thoughts in her head. This creature, person, ghost...whatever she was, seemed safe. "What are you? And why is nobody paying attention to you?" She asked.

"Ah, so many questions!" The creature, Karma as she'd called herself, chirped. "I'm getting excited! Don't worry, I'll answer them all eventually." She paused for a moment. "What am I...well, that's very easy. I am a life goddess."

Y/n blinked. A life..goddess...? What was she in, a fantasy book?

"And as for the why...it's very simple really. Only a human who has  touched the Life Note can acknowledge my existence." The other explained as if it was perfectly natural.

"Okay..." Y/n trailed off. This was getting a bit hard to follow, but it seemed reasonable that she was the only one who could see this life goddess. She was the one who found the mysterious notebook after all, although she'd never used it before. What did she need it for?

"Well, as for now, could you let me in?" Karma asked in an almost desperate voice. "I spawned outside of your house, and I've been waiting for a chance to go in for, like, hours."

Y/n nodded, and unlocked the door. She was no idiot, but Karma seemed like a good-natured life goddess, and she was very pretty too. It was natural, though, goddesses were almost always pictured as fragile and beautiful.

"Thank you!" The life goddess said cheerfully, flying into her new home with her dragonfly wings.

*flashback, please exit stage right*

Y/n's POV:

"Win for me please!" Karma says in her usual cheery voice. I've known her for quite a while now, and I've gotten used to her looking over my shoulder. She's like...the personification of Wattpad comments that I read from one time to another.

You don't win entrance exams. I send the thought to her. It's a very convenient ability to have when you're friends with a life goddess.

"Oh, alright. Then pass for me, is that the right word?" She mends, hovering behind me like always.

I give a slight nod, and enter the school grounds.

"Hurry up, miss!" I hear a member of the staff shout at me. "It's two minutes to the test!" I turn my head towards him.

"Thanks, I guess I better go." I reply with a light chuckle as I pick up the pace. I'd intended to get here a minute early, but if I said it out loud, I'd seem like a show-off.

I enter the testing room, and silently take my seat. In my head, I tell Karma to stay as quiet as she can, and not cheat for me. I want to pass this test on my own.

*timeskip to entrance ceremony because I can*

I walk into the school grounds, smiling despite myself. Why, I don't know. Maybe it's the satisfaction of passing a test. Or maybe my ego loves it when it knows that I've made a big accomplishment early.

"I wish I could live here." Karma mutters behind me, looking hungrily at the cherry blossoms around us. She catches a falling petal and tosses it into her mouth.

Sh. I tell her, as I climb up the stairs to the stage with...two other people? Wow, people these days are really smart. I thought I'd be the only one giving the speech today. How fun.

I step up to the podium with the other two guys, and I look down at the speech in front of me and begin to recite it.

As we continue, I notice significant differences between the two beside me. To my right, Light Yagami. As expected of the son of the Police Investigation Chief. To my left...a peculiar man calling himself Hideki Ryuga, obviously a fake name. But why would he have to lie about his name, I don't know yet. He's not dressed up for this occasion, and his posture...he looks like a freaking shrimp, all hunched over like that.

What an interesting group we are, I think as we finish our speech and bow simultaneously.

As I walk down the stairs, Ryuga, as he calls himself, walks up to Yagami. I go straight back to my seat. Whatever's between them is none of my business.

"I am L."

Aand, I am back with the first chapter of this story! Vacationing is hard work, and squeezing in writing and drawing is hard, so I hope you're enjoying this story so far! I do really hope I'll update really soon, because I'm excited for the next part as well.

Anyway, I'm thinking of making this an L x reader...what do you think?

All in favor say yay here,

and all not in favor say nay here.

Thanks!
