SHE WAS FRUSTRATED TO SAY THE LEAST. Her fingers flipped through the various pages of paper, going from homework to lyrics. Most of the pages were completely blank. If she was fortunate she'd finish something yet it always ended in her being stuck on the next one. Iris promised herself and her new record label that she would produce a 16-song album by the end of the year and yet all she had was one single verse. The stress was beginning to get to her and the dooming sense of failure loomed over her like a vulture circling their prey. Her brother, Oscar, told her to slow down and take her time but her brain worried that the world would catch up to her and she would be nothing more than a little speck of dust. Unknown and worthless. Then again, there was nothing to catch up to just blank pages, hopes and dreams. This was a constant argument within her head. Depending on the day it could range from should she straighten her hair or leave it in its natural curls or should she stop or continue to go.

Her persistent stress was clinging to her. Iris had hoped taking a short break from her usual lifestyle and flying over to New Castle, Connecticut with her brother for a week would kick some motivation into her. As proven previously, it did not.

"You're move, princess." A gravelly voice said nearby. Iris' eyes scanned her surroundings to find a chess game going on in the park she was in right now. "I don't have all day."

Iris found it quite random to play chess in the middle of a public park. Yet, the blonde never had any interest in learning the challenging art of chess but the gorgeous unfamiliar brunette had most certainly caught her eye.

"Not a princess." The brunette retorted back at her opponent. "Your move, old man."

Iris smirked to herself as this encounter went on. If there was one thing she liked it was badass brunettes. The girl was a slight hopeless romantic or perhaps just desperate. Another thing she was stuck arguing about. The chess duo shared a few more words before it was clear that the gorgeous brunette won. She suddenly turned in Iris' direction.

oh shit.

Iris gave the female stranger a slight smile and nod as she ran her fingers through her straightened blonde hair. The brunette responded with a similar smile. Wanting to get out of the situation ASAP, Iris put on her headphones and began walking away as quick as possible.

After a long day of errands, Iris enjoyed arriving at the small apartment she rented out with Oscar for
the short time she stayed in Connecticut. The silence that buzzed around the apartment made it very clear that her brother had yet to come home.

Iris had only just laid her head onto her couch before her phone howled an annoying loud melody. She let out a soft groan. The irritating ringtone was cut off abruptly as Iris lifted her phone to her ear.

"mm...who is this?" The blonde mumbled.

"Thea, you goofball. What's up with you?"

"Oh. It's so good to hear your voice Dory. I've been missing you."

Iris could practically hear the smile on Thea's face. That's how she typically was. Never short of happiness. Always smiling and willing to forgive. Dorothea Prescott could make Iris' "sad" existence worth living.
