Christian had arrived roughly twenty minutes ago, his greeting to both me and Nico with nothing more than a mere "Hi" or "Hello." Since then, we've been patiently waiting for Aurora to join us. Her delay surprises me, considering the anxiousness I detect in Christian's demeanor.
"Do you think she'll throw something at me?" Christian's voice trembles with unease as he addresses me. I glance at him, observing a level of anxiety I've never seen before. "You have nothing to worry about; Nico will handle her if need be," I reassure him.
From the corner of my eye, I catch Nico turning his head towards me, his response clear even without words. "I won't go anywhere near her. She's scary when she's angry," Nico declares, redirecting his gaze back to Christian. "It's your fault for leaving without a word and not facing her. So, fix it yourself and leave me out of it."
Suddenly, our heads turn in unison at the sound of heels clicking outside the office door. Christian gets up from his seat and walks toward a window, purposely distancing himself from the entrance. As the doorknob turns, I hear him inhale sharply, preparing himself for her arrival.
"Brother," Aurora's smile radiates warmth as she addresses me. "Nico," she acknowledges us both before casting her gaze toward where Christian stands. She stares at him for a while gathering her thoughts. "Well, well, well. Look who decided to show up. Thought you were dead," she mocks, tilting her head while glaring at him.
Christian straightens his posture, taking a few steps forward. "Aurora baby," he sighs, addressing her with an air of familiarity.
My brow furrows in disbelief. What on earth is he doing, calling my sister baby in front of me? Disgusting.
Before I can voice my thoughts, Aurora beats me to it, her words laced with intense anger. "You are, without a doubt, the most despicable liar to ever grace this earth. And now you want me to pretend it never happened?" She cuts off any attempt he may make to respond. "Spare me your empty words, and more importantly, keep your distance from me," she seethes, her anger palpable.
"Aurora," Christian's voice quivers, barely audible above a whisper. She looks up, her expression a mixture of anger and disappointment. Recognition briefly flickers in her eyes, quickly overtaken by a surge of resentment. My gaze shifts to Christian, a glare reflecting my memory of the pain he inflicted on her when he left.
Aurora turns away from him, fully facing me. "So, what did you want to discuss? Make it quick; I need to prepare," she says, her tone curt. I nod, then shift my gaze back to Christian, witnessing the weight of guilt settle upon him, while my own throat constricts with the tension hanging in the air.
Clearing my throat, I speak up, "Everyone here is aware of Viktor's plans for tonight. We have our men prepared and on high alert, ready to notify us of any suspicious activity. If he decides to make an appearance, we need to be fully prepared. Christian, you will stay with Aurora at all times, while Nico and I engage with some ... associates to gather information. We must remain vigilant and not let our guard down for a second."
"I'm not fucking staying with him," Aurora seethes, her anger seeping through her words. "Yes, you will," I assert firmly, frustration tingling in my voice. "I'm doing this for your safety, so listen to me and don't test my patience. As for the issues between the two of you, leave them aside until we return home. Understood."
