The sun had not yet risen, though its bright rays peeked over the horizon, painting the sky a pretty gradient of purple to blue. May could've slept a while longer but she wasn't really feeling it. Aside from that there was a tantalizing smell coming from downstairs...
May reached the first floor and made a beeline to the kitchen's open doorway. What greeted her was a man, back facing her while he worked the stove. She cleared her throat. He stilled briefly before facing her. He seemed very familiar.
"...Jack?" She asked.
The man grinned, "Not till' eight in the morning, ma'am," he said, "for now just call me Jo."
Seemed reasonable, seeing as "Jo" had a more roguish look to him than his clowney counterpart. To start off, he was brunette - hair brushed into a sloppy mullet, with a few stray strands dangling in front of his eyes. A beauty mark in the corner of his right eye. And from the neck down an array of tattoos.
"And I'm guessing that the stuff on the stove arrre... blueberry pancakes?"
Jo shook his head, "Nope - sausages," he stepped aside to show the plate full of breakfast pancakes, "Finished those a while ago."
The sweet smell wafted through the air once more. May could practically feel herself drooling, they smelled so good. Jo nodded to the plate with a smile, "Well go on, help yourself."
She wet her lips, instantly going for the cabinet so she could grab an empty plate and scoop a couple of cakes onto it. She could've waited on the sausages to be done but the tantalizing smell from the pancakes drew attention to her now empty feeling stomach. Jo chuckled at her eagerness.
After drenching her stack of pancakes in syrup, she sat down at her table and began to dig in. The warm fluffy texture on her lips made her melt; she closed her eyes and inhaled deep through her nose, relishing in the warm feeling the cooked meal gave her, and afterwards continued to chow down.
Jo chortled, "Gooolly, I guess you don't get a meal like this all the time."
"Mm-mm, I live off fast food. And it's been a long time since I've had cooking like this !"
"Really?" The man leans on the table, resting his head in his hands, "And I'm guessing your boyfriend never cooks like this for you?"
May flinches at the question, the flavorful taste dulling along with her mood. She scrunches up her nose and bites out, "He never did shit."
It's Jo's turn to flinch at the sudden change in mood. He rubs the back of his neck, lips pursing as he realizes he might've cut it a bit too close with the flirting; he ended up touching a nerve he shouldn't've. May absentmindedly continues to eat, though in the back of her mind she was berating herself for getting so sensitive over wounds long since healed... or at least, she felt they did. It's been a year for chrissakes. And she ended up snapping over some poor hottie only trying to make her laugh...
"I-"
"Hot damn those smell good!" Shaun's lively voice cuts through the thick tension in the air like a butterknife. Once May finished up her stack, she excused herself to her room.
"Finished already, May?" Jamie asked, following after her boyfriend.
"Yup," May replied, "Jo's a master cook, I had to get it all in."
Shaun was quick to take a spot in front of the stove, stabbing the sausages and dropping them inside his new plate along with the pancakes. "I'll be the judge of that!" He takes a bite of his food, shuddering in pleasure. "Mmph! The judge says yes!"

May is greeted by the morning sun. There's a slight breeze in the air, though it does nothing to ease the heat. Branson was crowded, yes, but it was cooler. Luckily, she's dressing weather appropriate: A white solid tie front crop shirt and a black skirt with brown ankle booties. The exposure of her midsection showed off her belly piercing. She ties her hair up so that it sits a bit higher on her shoulders.
As she walks out to the ranch she can see her friends are already making due with their time there. Jamie leans over the fences, cooing at the smaller animals in the petting zoo, though teeters away when some of them are bold enough to walk up to her. May snickers, she's so easily jazzed yet so easily frightened. It made sense why Shaun is dating her. Speaking of which, the man - being the utter comedian he is, is dressed head to toe in pseudo-cowboy wear. A black long-sleeved button down shirt, pants, and dark brown boots. A silver pocket chain on his front pocket.
May gives him a flat look, "Now I know your ass is hot in that."
Shaun bends slightly and caresses his butt, before smacking it firmly. "It is, isn't it?" His friend rolls her eyes humorously. "Also, do you have any idea who the beefcake was in the kitchen?"
"Oh, you mean, Jo? I only met him this morning." May said. Shaun leans against the fences, facing her.
"Really? It sounded like you both were getting mighty chummy this morning."
"He was a good cook, it's only fair I pay him a compliment."
"Suuure."
May shoves his shoulder, "Stop making everything weird when I'm feeling a guy. You know I'm not trying to get into a relationship right now."
"No no no, you misunderstand my shady princess!" Shaun said, "This isn't about relationships - this is about fun!"
"Fun?"
"Sex! Knocking boots, fooling around with whos-her-face and whats-his-names! Getting all the dick and ass you can to fill that fourth hole...in your heart." He gives her an earnest look as he puts a hand over his chest.
May raises a brow. She can see what he's getting at and that he means well, but she's got enough problems in her life as is; a worried friend is not something she needs to add on.
"Even still, I don't see why it's any of your concern who I'm getting it from." May said.
"Because at least if I know you're getting it, I don't have to be worried about your spiritual needs." Shaun replies.
"What is it and who is May-Rose getting it from? Nothing bad I hope..."
The two turn their attention over to Sunny Day Jack, looking dandy as ever and sauntering their way. Once he's next to May he flashes that boyish smile that shows off his dimples. She has to cover her mouth to keep from giggling - honest-to-God giggling. This doesn't pass by Shaun for a second and he's quick to shove her into him.
"What it is, is your horseback riding expertise! May-Rose here has never ridden a horse before and she'd like you to teach her!" Shaun said.
May had to keep from slugging her friend right there, not just for the shove and obnoxious use of her full first name, but for saddling her up with the handsome clown who was quick to catch her in his arms. Her cheeks burned as he looked down at her with soft eyes and asked, "...Sure you want me?"
Yes.
He quickly defends, "T-to help, I mean!"
Either way, it's a done deal. She hums nonchalantly, "I could use some lessons..."
Jack smiled. So did Shaun.

If you're noticing the change in parts then it's because the story's turning out to be bigger than I thought. I'm glad people are liking it so far, though, and I'll try to get out the next chapter expeditiously.
However, I will be doing plenty of research on horseback riding and reestablishing my connections with the characters and their connections with each other in order to flesh out their tension in terms of drama, romance, and sexual attraction.
Thanks for listening,
