I silently follow the professor. We pass through the next part of the plane, where the quarters were as well as the bathroom. There's four doors here, three rooms, one bathroom. While we're walking through this, I can hear some commotion on the closed doors, probably the guys and the girls arguing over rooms. This plane truly is big, and when we got to the next room, I'm not surprised how sophisticated and advanced U-tech really is. The whole room is like a tech and communications room, every type of technology needed to run an above ground mobile headquarters was here. "Wow." I couldn't help myself, this is my world. Gadgets, technology and machines. Inventing, innovations, and such. I stopped for a moment, just admiring the small room. I only snapped out of it when someone tapped my shoulder. I feel my face heat up when professor Klaus gives me an amused look, "come on, Max. You can play later." I kept my head down after that, silently following the professor to the last part of the plane, at the tail end.
Now this, is so... clean. It's pure white, and it smells like disinfectants, like a hospital. Well it technically is a hospital, a small clinic with everything you need in it. Doctor Allen was here, and she gestured for me to sit down around the clean examination table that has been modified as a meeting table, and I did. The professor sits down in front of me, and instantly, I knew that this topic was going to be serious. "Max, you will not be leaving mine and doctor Allen's side throughout the whole mission. In case there is a threat in the area, we need to establish a safe zone for the field clinic as well as a ground base." He pushes a piece of paper towards me, and I can see a strategic map already drawn out. Wow, this is detailed. From positions to the slayers who would be there, but there are things I will need to change, seeing as professor Klaus separated the Kinsman twins here, and partnered one or two of my slayers with those they hated. Most notably, Tasha and Ethan.
I'll edit these later, though. "I assume you will keep your newest addition, miss Jenkins with you. I suggest keeping the other Jenkins with us as well, seeing as she is the one with the long ranged weapon." I nodded silently, pulling a notepad from my bag and taking notes. "I suggest putting the kinsman twins together, and..." I take an acetate and put it on top of the map, drawing a 1 inside the building, right in the middle. "Placing them as the primary search group, we can have Ethan and Gerald as a group supporting the primary search. Just outside the building, we can have Simon and Felicia search there. Felicia is especially good with sneaking, and Simon is conveniently silent as well. That leaves us with Faylin and Tristan in one group, and Tasha and Shanely for the other." I finished my modifications on the acetate, and professor Klaus makes his own notes on it. He drew a circular outer perimeter of the area and placed Faylin and Tristan at the front, and Tasha and Shanely in the rear. Just outside that perimeter, our ground base was located, nearest to the only exit route in the area. Apparently, this is the only way in and out without going into the forest. It seems like the map is set, and I look up at the professor. But it seems he's not here anymore, he has turned away from us and is mumbling something in Russian, something I can't hope to understand.
These were times when professor Klaus' insanity surfaced. He wasn't a violent crazy person, but when he is lost, he's lost. No one would be able to snap him out of it at all, and I heard even the administrators had funded a medicine research to keep people like him stable, to prevent these things from happening. Seems like the professor isn't taking it, though. "Hmm... He probably forgot a dose before we left. Ah well... We'll leave him be for now, but I'll need to make him take one before we land." I turn towards Doctor Allen and suddenly remember something. "Umm... Doctor Allen, why do we have so much Holy Water with us?" I ask, turning my full attention to her and ignoring the mumblings in the background. Professor Klaus will be back when he gets himself together.
"Oh don't worry about it dear, it's just a pre-caution. In case we find the worst has happened, and the sanctuary itself has been tainted. We need to purify weapons and a large area to keep ourselves and injured holy warriors safe."
That got me frowning. Only powerful demons and fallen angels can taint a holy object or place, and those things are so powerful that it can dispatch a whole team of students like us. Why are we being assigned to such a dangerous mission? "But doctor Allen, we're students. Why weren't the elite teams sent for this instead of us?"
"Elites have been sent. Professor Klaus, the two pilots and myself are the other half of the elite team sent there already. We have lost contact with them, so we were sent after. Your group, on the other hand..." Doctor Allen trails off, a sad sigh escaping her lips.
"The administrators wanted to test team 19 in a real life elite situation mission." I turn my head sharply towards the professor, already feeling my temper rise at what I'm hearing. My slayers are just kids, my youngest slayer is 16 god damn it! "And before you interrupt, you would have gone to a mission alone and without our help if I hadn't insisted on placing your team with me."
Am I supposed to be thankful for that? My team still has the possibility of dying! "But I have the presidents son in my team. Why would they risk the life of the only heir to the direct line of..."
"...Mister Silvers wasn't supposed to be part of the mission. He wasn't part of the first few notifications, just this one." Professor Klaus' words stop me. The world around me gets heavy and it feels like a heavy veil has been put over my whole body. His words invoke within me a rage that has only ever been let out towards homophobes and narrow minded beings of this planet, and I'm momentarily afraid before everything goes numb. I vaguely remember standing up before the whole world goes black, and I'm not aware of anything anymore. The veil over me is preventing me from seeing anything, but my sense of touch and hearing are still present, albeit dulled.
I hear someone yelling, probably a girl, and a tingling goes through my right arm. I'm unaware of whats happening, who is screaming, why are my arms tingling and so is my leg. I just know that I hate this situation, I hate the administrators, I hate the people who I have been speaking to just a while ago, and I hate myself for dragging twelve children to their possible death. Soon enough, my thoughts become just jumbled nonsense. The scream I could hear is dying down, though the tingling is getting worst on my left hand. I feel something or someone poking my right arm, something cold enters my veins and I knew no more.
