Now playing; crazy girls by toopoor
the sun beat down on izumi's back as she stood out in the garden. her skin twisting red under the rays but she didn't mind; izuku was always the one who got sunburnt. she stood up straight, cracking her back in the process, and adjusted the strap on her black sports bra. izumi slipped off her gardening gloves and wiped her face, taking traces of sweat with her fingertips.
she took off her headphones, dangling them around her neck. that's when she heard it, a conversation between one very familiar voice and one not so much.
"i promise!" the soft voice was tender and filled with sugar. "you can count on me-- i won't tell a soul."
"okay, kid." the older voice replied before footsteps were heard walking down the sidewalk.
before she could blink, or process the conversation, izuku was beelining toward her. he lunged at her with his lips glued up into a smile, unconventionally taking her down to the ground with him.
"ahh--" izumi pushed her brother off of her chest and raised herself up on her elbows. "zuku-- what the hell?" she rubbed the back of her head. she watched as izuku bounced up and down on his knees, starring at her with a spark of joy in his eyes. "what?"
he rushed up onto his feet, yanking izumi up with him. "come with me-- i have a secret to tell you!"
"then that doesn't make it a secret?" she mumbled as she tried not to trip over her bare feet.
izumi allowed herself to be dragged into the house and past their mother, who sat near the t.v. set. "oh-- please, no running in the house!" she called back after them as the two bolted to their room. their mother's voice had always been delicate, never louder than a soft rainfall, but they knew she was in charge. the twins never pushed their luck with their mother, the knew better.
"sorry mom!" the two of them answered over their shoulders at the same time.
as soon as they were secured in their room, Izuku started to ramble. his words were tangled against his tongue as the story bursted out. he started to pace around the room as he spoke, lifting his hands up to his hair. "but then he told me that he wants to pass his quirk on to me--"
izumi sat in front of him on her bed, her face littered with disbelief. "wait-- like all might all might?"
he nodded his head eagerly, his teeth biting down on his bottom lip. "yeah!"
she shook her head, sending her bangs to cover her eyes. izumi brushed them out of the way. "like-- you're all time favorite hero, all might?"
"yes!" izuku expressed. "zumi are you even listening to me?"
"i am!" she chuckled, standing up to join him in the middle of the room. "but this sounds just so... insane!"
he looked up at her, his eyes misting over with tears. his lips quivered. "i'm going to be a hero, sis." a stray tear fell down his cheeks, but izumi was quick to catch it. "me... a hero." his voice was gentle now, no longer filled to the brim and ready to over flow. his tone was like wind through wildflowers, wrapping around his sister until her skin was scattered with goosebumps.
izumi smiled through a lump in her throat. she grabbed izuku by the shoulders and yanked him into a hug. "you're going to make the best hero, zuku."
they stood still, holding each other in their arms. they felt the paces of each others heartbeats, waiting until they were hammering the same pattern until pulling away. it was a twin thing.
